In 1992, I had done my first ever Carlsbad 5000. i got to watch the elites afterwards. William Mutwol set a record in the elite race. By 2020, the winning time (record) has dropped only 13 seconds.
In middle distance, Abdi Bile's times have not been eclipsed much.
In marathons, Abebe Bikila's best time vs Eliud Kipchoge' best is 30 seconds per mile slower....only.
We saw human potential then.
McEnroe won with wooden racquets.
Blanda kicked through used footballs.
Ruth used old bats.
Several famous basketball players wore Converse...now among the heaviest shoes.
