Hassan, Koko, Dibaba, and Houlihan have broken these marks (stats stolen from another thread). What would be the all-time mens comparison for the 4 fastest athletes over these two distances?

12:45/1:47
14;30?
14:30/2:00
12:55/1:47
Not really answering the question, but I believe Anna Willard is the only woman in history to run the 800m in under 2:00 (1:58.80), the 1500m in under 4:00 (3:59.38), and the 3000m steeplechase in under 9:30 (9:22.76).

who is the fastest non-masculine woman ever in the 800?
The 800m women are completely tainted at the historical top marks. The eastern bloc athletes who ran 1:55 in the 70s did not look masculinized but must have used lots of steroids.

All four women mentioned in this thread are "non masculine." Houlihan is probably the "most masculine" of the four, but I still don't think anybody would call her masculine.
If one looks at the world top lists of the last 10 years, sub 2 is good enough for top 30 to top 40 in the world. (The Russian ban is very visible, it was less then 30 sub 2 women 2018 and 2019 but around 45 in 2012.) To get among the top 40 men, one usually has to run sub 1:46, for rank 30 often 1:45 low. So I'd say, 2:00 compares to 1:46.00 or maybe 1:45.6.
25 women ran sub 14:30, rank 25 in the 5000 men all time is 12:50.86, so for round numbers I'd say sub 2:00/14:30 is like sub 1:46/12:50.

Three of the four women you listed have never broken 14:20. The only one that did so was Dibaba.
Here's the all-time list:
1 14:11.15 Tirunesh Dibaba ETH 01.06.85 1 Oslo 06.06.2008
2 14:12.59 Almaz Ayana ETH 21.11.91 1 Roma 02.06.2016
3 14:12.88 Meseret Defar ETH 19.11.83 1 Stockholm 22.07.2008
4 14:14.32 Almaz Ayana ETH 21.11.91 1 Shanghai 17.05.2015
5 14:15.41 Genzebe Dibaba ETH 08.02.91 1 Saint-Denis 04.07.2015

I figured someone would chime in with a photo of Kratochvilova, but her heyday was in the 80s, not 70s.

Kratochvilova also ran 1:53.
there are probably a dozen women who ran 1:55 or faster in the 1970s and 80s who didnt look very masculine. Still about 2 secs faster than todays best(without semenya)

While that is perhaps true, Jenny Simpson has faster marks in the 1500 and steeplechase, and has closed a 1500 in sub-2 if I recall correctly, which indicates she'd definitely be able to do it if she race the 800 more (or at least would have been capable 3-5 years ago).

yes. those 4 are legit. im referring to what the 800 record should be without he/shes or ridiculously juiced steroid junkies in the mix.

good way to look at it.

It works if you assume the relative depth is the same, but the argument can be made that men’s running is much deeper.
I think it’s worth to compare to the world records (taking Jelimo’s 1:54) the assumption that both are relatively comparable quality is safe.
Proportionally:
1:40-*1:45*
1:54-2:00
12:37-*12:53*
14:11-14:30
Two methods giving a range of 1:45-1:46, 12:50 to 12:53.
Good starting point. Closest is Lagat at 1:46 and 12:53. After that, just finding 800m performances is a challenge. El G 12:50 and 1:47. Haile G at 12:40 and 1:49i. Sangok has a 12:50 and 1:50.
I think taking recentish sub 2:00 is a better guide because the 800m all time list is crazily skewed.
If you look at sub 1:56, there are 27 athletes, only three from with the last 10 years (Semenya*, Niyonsaba*, Wilson (Beef)).
If you look at sub 1:57, there are another 43 (so altogether 70) athletes, with only Goule, Alemu, Hassan, Wambui* from the last 10 years. So of the top 70 athletes since 1976 only 7 were active recently and three of them were banned for known reasons. And the other four were all "paced" by Semenya.
So overall the top marks were much better from the late 70s to the early 2000s than in the last 10 years. Especially if one scratches the athletes now banned. 1:56.5 is very strong for a woman and it is more than 3 secs above the WR.
(Compare: Of the 25 women sub 14:30 5k, 16 are from the last 10 years (14 from the last 5!)
