I know for the Boston Marathon, you have to meet a certain time limit. Is this also true for other major marathons like Chicago, NYC, Berlin, and so on?

Money talks.
You can buy your way into each one through charity.
Every major except London has time qualifiers. London is lottery only if you're outside the UK, which makes it a hobby jogger event and not a real race.
In our age bracket, you’d have to run sub 3:00 to get into Boston. That’s about 6:50 pace. Do you think you could run 6:50 pace for 26.2 miles a year from now?
Qualifying for Chicago is easiest and requires almost no talent. Boston requires a bit more talent and NYC a bit more again. Both Berlin and Tokyo require the most talent but still not very much. For under 45YO males you need to run a sub 2:45 for guaranteed entry to Berlin. Tokyo has the same time standard but only offers very limited spots for foreign qualifiers, so you need to be well under 2:45 to actually race.
But if you’ve got no talent, all of the above is moot.

Do you think you could run 6:50 for one mile a year from now? What are you training to run?
