I remember listening to Alberto Salazar. Regardless of doping, he knows what he’s talking about and has experience of he highest level with his athletes.
He said something along the lines of you know when you’re gonna have a superman type race when you’ve been doing Superman type workouts. That amazing performances are usually indicated somehow by workouts that are BETTER than normal.
It seems to me like the TinMan are never doing Superman workouts. The ideology is to train year around and train at sub maximal levels but always have decent performance. This would make sense if they were road runners who are winning races for money year round, but they are not. Critical velocity seems like a very unspecific pace that serves as pseudo anaerobic threshold work.
Almost like a continual base phase and as they get closer to a race there is more race pace work. But why do they not just peak for races and have Superman workouts like many others are doing. The results prove it
