Dude, we are talking about Big Jim here. Nobody beats him if he wants to win.

We are talking about World class ultra marathoners who make Comrades their number one event for the year and have won it multiple times.
My take on it, Jim is too much of an aggressive runner and will go out too hard. After the long Fields Hill (2km sharp descent after 70km of running) he will be shot and if he is leading by then they'll soon get him or run away from him overt the last 20km.
He just won the most prestigious ultra run this spring. He doesn't need Comrades.

HOKA Trials Athlete of the Day #8 Jim Walmsley Looking for Advice Before His First Marathon
by LetsRun.com
February 16, 2020
February is Marathon Month on LetsRun.com as the month ends with one of the greatest events on the athletics calendar, the 2020 US Olympic Marathon Trials in Atlanta. From the contenders, to the dreamers, to the mountain men and women, HOKA ONE ONE has 17 athletes competing at the Trials, and LetsRun.com is partnering with HOKA to profile all of them.
Can anyone actually confirm that there may be another OT Marathon??

I would love to see him smash the Grand Canyon rim to rim record. With no Other sports competing for the spot light it will bE HUGE. Plus looks like there will be another OT in the marathon. Don’t count out Walms in that!!!!!
Well he wilted and couldn't handle the hills in Atlanta so I sure hope he's training hills!

He needs to do a lot more marathon specific training in general. But he doesn't care about the marathon so he won't. And he'll never sniff a top 3 finish at the OTs

It was the pressure that he'd have to answer to COVID-19 speculation that Big Jim couldn't handle. Or chose not to handle. Big Jim would have crushed those hills in Atlanta and beaten everybody other than Rupp easily, if he wanted to.
"Jim Walmsley goes home devastated. 2020 Comrades Marathon is cancelled"
Hilarious use of the "goes home devastated" jab. That was overplayed years ago, but what a reason to bring it back! I mean, this place bills itself as the go-to site for pro running and everyday inspiration, and here we have one of the site co-founders laughing at the cancellation of another major running event as well as the chance to see Walmsley, one of the few interesting runners out there, give it his usual 110%.
Get it right: STAYS home devastated.

Reading this from the missile silo now. Gotta love it.

Posting on yet another thing you know nothing about. This is not a strava backyard run, it is a 20,000 participant run...even the lead pack is cheek by jowl.

And next year will be up, gradual up and up to Cowie's Hill then Field's Hill at 30km, Botha's, Inchanga etc until Polly Shortt's ..these are just the one's with names.
May he should stay at home and not be devastated, but seriously it will be good to see him there, and put a benchmark on his ability
And "I am Sam" Posting what you do not know about as well: Next year was also scheduled to be a Down Run. 2 in a row. You people are clueless. Cuan knows his stuff though.
