I wa s on the NN Runing site this morning and came across feature of reigning Berlin marathon champ Ashete Bekele who won Berlin last year in 2:20:14 and ran a 66:37 half earlier this year. The article says she's got a new coach and is running more and thinks she can run 2:17-18.
"The plan is to run a fast time in the hope of being a member of the Ethiopian team for the Olympics, I think one day I can run 2:17-2:18."
It got me interested in learning more and so I looked up her stats on tilastopaja and was stunned to realize she was a former journeyman. The article called her a rising star but she's 32. Here are all the marathons in her career.
