Boston Marathon Policing Controversy

This is pure BS. Just mere coincidences are dotted to support false racism. Were the police on bikes anywhere else on the course near white people?

I think it’s really hard to parse everything out.

On the one hand, I think it’s totally reasonable to accept that race entered the equation here.

On the other hand, I think was this group was doing (and it was a BIG group far as I could see) was kind of a trespass. As I said - violating norms and rules. I’d be surprised if other groups were quite so intrusive on the course as this one is reputed to have been.

What my initial post was really trying to comment on was the cartoonish, inflammatory depiction of the police as racist reactionaries. This isn’t the good-old-boy Boston PD of yesteryear or Bill Conner or whatever. Newton is like top 0.1% progressive and I’m rather sure these cops have all done their implicit bias training and whatnot. Again, doesn’t mean that this response wasn’t somewhat inflected by racism. But the portrayal of these cops as only aggressors probably doesn’t reflect the nuances of the factual, not felt reality.

I'm minority. These kinds of posts are why I check LRC only sometimes. It's full of ignorant white libtards. Whites are heavily discriminated against in many ways such as encouraged to take birth control and to not having children and giving up jobs they are qualified for through Affirmative Action and on and on. Universities are heavily anti-white and lie to students with propaganda for agenda purposes.

When I was young, I was happy to use Affirmative Action but as I got older I saw it was wrong. I don't know the whole story behind the video clips. Look at the big cities and its crime and see who is doing it and who is letting it happen.

I'm more successful than KG and I don't need her to feel sorry for me and treat me like I'm lesser a person like she insinuates in her video post. Disgusting people. Treat us "minorities" fairly and equally.

I don't like the pop of the confetti canon but runners probably don't hear it as much above the cheers. For what it's worth, Des posted a pic of her in the confetti shower on Instagram and it supposedly says "the best party block" or something like that.

This really involves the eye of the beholder and why people see racism when people call out this behavior as out of hand. I don't see anything appalling going on. There's even a guy with a broom cleaning up the confetti. I do see a lot of black bodies celebrating and a lot of those bodies don't look like typical runners (meaning stick thin).

For whatever it's worth to the conversation, these guys shot one of those confetti bombs into the air maybe 30 seconds or so before I passed their spot along the course. I remember feeling a surge of anxiety because I didn't feel like breathing that sh-t in, and how stupid of an idea it seemed. Thankfully avoided it, and I'm glad it was eventually shut down. Don't care if they're black, white, Inuit, Visigoths, whatever, it was just a terrible idea.

Let’s be honest, not many of us would want people to shoot confetti in our faces during a marathon. At the very least, it’s just rude.

I realize that once they increased the field size, Boston was going to become more party-like, but can we at least not let it slide down into Rock ‘n Roll Marathon territory?

Either cause I've picked up vernacular from socially progressive Black activists or cause I grew up in a fairly racist town and time and know what racists are thinking cause they said it right in front of me and I'm sure I picked up some of it as an initial first-impression reaction but because I'm not white, I didn't totally buy into it either.

cops are routinely much more conservative then the communities they serve. This is well known. Policing is inherently a racist activity in the US. it is designed to protect those in power. These are facts, doesn't matter what the "town" is.

Because Ta-Nehisi Coates. He was one of the people who, in his books, publicized the phrase "black bodies." it's an au courant phrase in contemporary academic writing. But Coates in "Between the World and Me" who really supercharged it, made it a thing.

that are of the course clogs up with some people slowing down and others trying to find lanes to pass.

I had a lot going on and whatever I say is just going to piss someone off, but I'll post one thought that hopefully makes people think outside the box a bit.

1) I don't get why this country is obsessed with looking for racism everywhere when sexism is worse than racism in this country and this thread proes it. Why are we focused on Kara Goucher and Lauren Fleshmans reactions to the tweet instead of the tweet itself? As a result, I'm changin the title of the thread

lets look at her twitter post in the context of the 2016 US Olympic Trials Marathon in LA. Ready?

“Really upsetting to see this today. I cannot imagine this happening- yet it did. A day of celebration and joy tainted by this. What are we doing? Running community- we preach inclusivity but we have a long way to go. This is not ok.”

(The post describes Kara getting 4th place and losing like a wussss and ruining the celebration of the 3 Olympic qualifiers, Amy Cragg, Desiree Linden, Shalane Flanagan).

How is it “sexist” to focus on a “woman’s (whatever that is anyway) reaction to the controversy”?

Institutional racism has not been eradicated. It has been amplified in the form of ESG policies that seek to normalize, or even reward, judging people by their skin color. Racism is basically baked into 'B Corps', Fortune 500 companies, and anyone who does business with the likes of BlackRock.

Society was becoming very colorblind in the 90s and 2000s. The real patriarchy didn't want people living in harmony and getting along so it was time for a classic 'divide and conquer' -- hence the mass-media supported race grifting we've been seeing since the early teens that culminated in the totally fraudulent incitement of violence by loads of political and media personalities during the summer of 2020.

The same thing happened in the 1960s -- lots of advancements in dissolving racism. No wonder Kennedy had to go and LBJ's crony administration had to ghettoize the inner cities with all of his 'great society' programs. It is all by design. Sad to see the bleeding-heart anti-racist folks playing the part of useful idiots.
