You'd think when they go to their little four box format on the broadcast they could at least make the boxes big enough to actually see what's going on
The stream above seems to be going down and I wouldn't trust clicking the "link in the chat". I found another live stream but it is not quite as clear.
This one is even working in Europe but dang they talk a lot. It almost seems condescending to the athletes. And no onscreen clock?
The commentators are 1000x better though, no comparison. They actually talk about the race. Yeah I get annoyed about the missing clock but not much of a value add tbh.
Cut to the wheelchairs again and there isn't a single other competitor in sight in either the men's or women's races. These are time trials and the governing body needs to do more to make them competitive so that spectators can get excited about them. Wheelchair racing is not fundamentally bad, but these kinds of processions benefit no one.
One negative thing I noticed about the early footage was the overpronation from Kipchoge. I guess that's one disadvantage of the racing supershoes - they don't come in a stability version. Fingers crossed he isn't injuring himself.
he's been competing at a world class level for over 20 years with zero major injuries, and you're worried about his footstrike?
So since they're showing it. Do the wheelchair racers get back/neck pain issues from racing? It looks so insanely uncomfy. Or is it a bit more like TT cycling where you practice and get used to the aero position?
The local WCVB broadcast has been on wheelchair covg. for 5 minutes now. Dumbest thing ever. Kipchoge is running Boston and we're watching wheelchair racers time trial.
I'm all in favour of para athletics but these wheelchair races are not really races, they're both complete processions, it's like watching traffic. They should either make these races deep enough to be competitive or only cut to them when they come into finish.
I think we all know why these categories are included
on the spectrum of things that don't matter I know running is relatively close to wheelchair racing for most people. but it's baffling to me that year after year they essentially dedicate dozens of minutes of screentime to just one person on a wheelchair completely alone lol. there is no depth in that sport and definitely no one that cares about it either. I remember a few years ago the announcers talked about how advantageous it was for on competitor because they spent the money on the best wheelchair that no one else bothered to do lol. i feel like it almost taints the novelty of boston by showing 2 people alone on a wheelchair and trying to make commentary on it instead of focuses on a tightly packed running race
