Emma Bates last mile was 5:24. Her split at 21 miles projected a finishing time of 2:23:21. The last 5.2 miles are net substantially downhill & mostly downhill according to the . Her last mile was faster than Kipchoge's. She doesn't need to work on her finish or endurance. Helen Obiri's track times are out of this world (even her kick at the end of track races is completely insane). Obiri's last mile was 5:00--only 10 seconds slower than the men's winner & same time as second place male.
The women's race delivered today. Easily a course record type effort for Obiri. The weather was a lot better last year & she was only 37s off of it.
15 women went under 2:25:00. 20 came in with sub-2:23:00 PBs. It's incredible in this day & age with how common sub-2:20's have become that it's only happened once (not counting a doper) in Boston.
Both races turned out to be incredible, all the way down to the finish. Watched the coverage on the new TV broadcaster, WCVB, and they nailed it the whole way through. Covered the wheelchair races but once it was obvious who would win they focused on the foot races. They didn’t go too far into the non-elite races until after they all finished, and then began covering the human interest stories. Perfect execution and also we had great insight by Carrie and Meb. Really enjoyed this today.
I'm a former runner, never had the insane running as abilities like others, but I was dedicated ated for sure. I still have that passion. Anyways Emma Bates needs to get away earlier if she can especially from obiri, then she may have a shot. Otherwise the result will be the same. Emma Bates may blow up if she does it, but she must run close to her half marathon pb's over twice the distance, and a negative split. It may not be enough, but that is an ambitious plan for her.
Basically the only way an American is going to win, except our runners of East African descent, is if the field disrespects them enough to allow them to get a huge lead and not be able to catch up. If our runners can't hang with the best Ea's on the track, how are they going to handle them on the roads.

She only finished 32 seconds behind, taking it out at half marathon pace with the hopes of building up a lead seems like an excessive and unnecessary tactic. She might be better off pacing one second per mile faster for the entire race.
For context, he's 46 years old, 6'9 ~250lbs (playing weight, might be down a bit in retirement). Played until last year which is insane longevity as well.

Better yet, she should run a 5k PR to open the race and then keep running faster and faster. She obviously needs better coaching.
How much officiating have you done. You don't have a clue, and you have a small sample that is biased because you made a general comment about officials after seeing a mistake that is understandable (if they thought it was a male behind). As an official for the last 30 years I find you comment offensive and you should think about what you are really saying rather than throwing out a comment that actually makes you look stupid to someone who really knows.
