Sara Hall for 17th as a master, in a time that would've been widely celebrated a decade ago. I'll best Desi and Shalane are happy for the wins they were gifted.
He knows his limits, he ain't stupid like Albertson and Mantz. He slowly but surely took them apart and got 1st American.
[again]
He'd probably like better splits (1:03:59/1:05:45), but that compares pretty favorably to his compatriots who were in front of him at the half or near him at the finish. (1:02:20/1:08:05, 1:02:20/1:08:13, 1:03:59/1:06:18).
It's pretty dumb to suggest, as some folks have, that a guy who pretty clearly knows his redline and best racing tactic should blow past it just so we can all give him props for "taking a chance."
How close to his HM PB do you think Albertson is going through halfway? He hasn't got an official HM PB but I can't imagine it's a lot better than 62:20 which was his halfway split today. He's attempted 2:05 enough times now to know he's not that athlete. Everyone around him needs to persuade him to go out in 64 for his next marathon and see if he can bring it home. You can't just will yourself to go from 2:10 to 2:05/06
on the spectrum of things that don't matter I know running is relatively close to wheelchair racing for most people. but it's baffling to me that year after year they essentially dedicate dozens of minutes of screentime to just one person on a wheelchair completely alone lol. there is no depth in that sport and definitely no one that cares about it either. I remember a few years ago the announcers talked about how advantageous it was for on competitor because they spent the money on the best wheelchair that no one else bothered to do lol. i feel like it almost taints the novelty of boston by showing 2 people alone on a wheelchair and trying to make commentary on it instead of focuses on a tightly packed running race
Wheelchair races are cycling events, and therefore should be held concurrently with cycling races. Plus holding them concurrently with cycling races would make them more interesting.
They have nothing whatsoever to do with running and should not be held concurrently with running events.

my gawd what awful coverage on ESPN. Top american finishing in a tight race and they switch to Kipchoge walking, putting on his jacket. then the banner declares him the overall winner. whatta joke, get split screen.
Yeah but we got to see Kipchoge motion to Patrick Sang and his PT guy that his quads were shot. Right before Patrick put his coat over him, you could see Kipchoge motion to him that from his waist down to his knee on his quads. Having run Boston 6 times, that tells me that he didn't put in the sustained, fast, downhill running that's required. Otherwise the first half crushes your quads.
Combined with the cold maybe. Everyone talks about the need to acclimatize for hot races, but if you aren't used to running in colder temperature it really sucks too (if there is a big change from what you are used to). This has to be worse for a very small guy with no body fat. Big temperature drops for me (running trails/hills) just destroy my quads.

His strava is showing this morning as his HM PR.
Not surprising. He has a lot of data now to know he is not capable of running with the lead pack. It's great that he has bet on himself but it's dumb to keep doing it. He needs guidance because he's making so many bad decisions and selling himself short. He should easily be a 2:08 guy if he's running 2:10 while completely tanking the second half
