Correct, Gidey in Bathurst pulled a Cheptegei in Kampala.
She was obviously exhausted but it looked more like she lost balance than getting seized up like Cheptegei back then.
To me it looked like she was hanging on surviving and then when passed, mentally it just devastated her which turned physical from the shock. Physically you just don't turn 100% off like that, it was a mental catalyst being shocked by the pass.
Looked like she was waltzing in for the win. Then Chebet was closing like a freight train.

I watched the replay and knew she was going to collapse. It was interesting when the commentator said that it would take a disaster for her to lose and that he didn't want to put the commentator's jinx on her!!! Ooops!!!!
Yes, it should be a DQ. They mentioned it when the guy in the U20 race collapsed at the finish.
Speaking of DQ's- watch the mixed relay- one of the Kenyan men looked like he high fived a spectator. Obviously it didn't help him but technically I thought that was grounds for a DQ.
Gidey tripped on the last "mogul" of the run. I'm disagreeing for having those humps and those tires at the very end of the race just seems a little silly to me......
Good call. It was stupid. And as far as the tyres go, the course shouldn't split up a group like that. Have couple of humps not the whole finish straight

Sure, but when you got to her you wouldn’t immediately pick her up to have her finish as quickly as possible, which is what they did. You would either give/get her immediate medical attention or let her get up on her own and finish. That’s pretty standard procedure at these things.
There are a lot of deleted posts in this thread so maybe someone did already mention it, but does anyone’s think it looks like she just “bails” after seeing she got passed? Didn’t look like she tripped, wasn’t as painful looking as a full on lock up. She looks over sees she lost and just kinda sits down.
She definitely collapsed from oncoming heat overload. Watch the video and you can see her at least a few times try to wet her lips with her tongue. And I agree she was already shaky a couple hundred meters before she collapsed.

That makes the most sense, I’d agree. I’ve collapsed in a bike race from heat symptoms (luckily, going uphill), so can now see some similarities from my experience. Interesting that mine happened with a mental breaking moment quickly followed by a collapse, which seems similar to her. When the pass happened the mental break then just gave permission for the body to succumb to the heat exhaustion/ stroke. Doesn’t look lactic related to me.
