I'm not versed in the technicalities of allegiance and representation, but this tweet from Gault from last year says Hicks hopes to become eligible in July 2026. Not sure if there's been an update since.
To clarify: Charles Hicks is a US citizen and USATF member, so he is eligible to compete in the USATF championship division. But not set a US record -- that goes to Maier.
Hicks is in the process of switching allegiance from GB to USA. Hoping to become eligible in July '26. https://t.co/glQTvhfmii
He doesn't look old. The lines at the side of his eyes are due to sun exposure. I'm 38 and have no lines at all because I mostly stayed indoors for years. He has more hair than me, though.
This race just blew up American men's marathoning. Favorable conditions of course, but having American men go 2:03:45, 2:04:35, 2:05:41, 2:05:46, 2:05:56 is insane and nothing like it has happened before.
2:07-2:08 used to be elite in the US, not you need to be 2:05 to be elite.
With his age, I'm putting Hicks as the trials Olympic favorite in 2028. Talbi, Mantz right there with Young, Ford, and Klecker next tier.
taking the times out since we know the course nad conditions, i was just thinking about what this does the the Marathon Trials. I think Mantz and Talbi are the solid one and two, and that third spot is going to be rough. Young may miss out, Hicks could come through, but there are a LOT of great Americans for that third spot.
Zouhair Talbi is a US Citizen now and should give Hicks some competition
Yes for sure but he'll be 33 by the trials. Hicks will continue to improve and I'm betting he'll be the favorite and best American marathoner hands down in two years. Mantz and Talbi will give him a fight, but Hicks is so young and has way more room to improve.
Hicks 2:04:35 Young 2:05:41 Ford 2:05:46 Klecker 2:05:56
Definitely good stuff with the favorable conditions
Klecker came from behind to beat Rory Linkletter there at the very end.
Glad to see Klecker putting it together regardless of the conditions. Letsrun is gonna have to chill on the workout threads making fun of him for a bit now.
Those two don't really count do they because of the point to point/elevation drop while Mantz ran his time at Chicago.
Yeah, we know about the whole Boston course situation.
Then why are posters misrepresenting the times as being ahead of Mantz? Especially Hicks which is only 7 seconds ahead on a much faster course? They don't count.
