Give Korir credit for letting Mengesha have his lead for a while and being patient. Dude just ran a smart race.
Yep. While Clayton was up front getting hype with the Wellesley crew, John was napping in the rear.

And the real race begins
Charles Hicks under the previous American record set by Connor Mantz on just his second ever marathon!
WTF Is this coverage????????????
Lokedi lobs a 5 minute grenade at the pack.

To the gills!
Wow, Kenya is so good. Good thing organizers don’t care about the integrity of the sport.
2:04:35 for Hicks holy smokes. 23 seconds faster than Hall ran on this course. Hyped to see him balling in the marathon now after a pretty lowkey couple years post-Stanford. Wow.
When they interview John Korir - hopefully they can bring in Marcel Hug for some thoughts by him.
For American Interest
Hicks 2:04:35
Young 2:05:41
Ford 2:05:46
Klecker 2:05:56
Definitely good stuff with the favorable conditions

Huge day for British subjects
Korir demolishing the field sort of hid the fact that a lot of guys are running 2:04-2:05s today.
Talbi (2:03:45) and Hicks (2:04:35) both go sub-Mantz (2:04:43). This is clearly the strongest top 3 American marathoners we’ve ever had.
Klecker at 2:05:56 is not too shabby, 10 seconds back on Ryan Ford who was just 5 back from Clayton Young????

I think it's more likely than not that the 2020 (in spring 2021) NAIA national cross-county championship was harder to win than the NCAA ones due to Talbi being the champ

Yeah, as soon as he pulled away I was kind of bummed because it meant that we're just going to lose any hope of coverage of the rest of the pack.
RUPP IS BACK BABY!!!!!!!!

Is Hicks an American now?
