I respect Jonathan’s Journalistic integrity, but he should have known Kipchoge is a prickly interview and thrown one or two no running questions to try to lighten up the conversation.

I think Jonathan distracted Kipchoge with his similarly bald head as he didn’t seem to be able to focus on the hard hitting questions. Either that or he was looking forward to going to the LRC meetup later in the evening to ask the Brojos if he could wear the LRC singlet on Monday.
You had nothing to lose by just straight out asking if he was doping. Mention the doping epidemic in his country and the fact someone in his training group was caught.
Pls allow me to elaborate with My Swedish school English. I for my part think eliud just meant that this time he had no other more important races in his schedule. So this was obvious the right time for him and hence forth the best time for him to come to Boston (after the race we can talk if it really was the best time). I just think it is priority matters. He has a bucket list he is ticking off. But i think he will come third. The younger guys are more hungry n super shoes are more or less equal (Nike, adidas n maybe Asics) now. And Boston is no rabbits running around. Yeah Olympics as well but competition is more fierce in a race like this. Its do or die.
Kipchoge is without doubt the GOAT at the marathon.
But like so many (vast majority) of African runners hes barely had an education. His English is poor and he doesn't have the ability to think deeply and respond in English. Sadly of course the world seems to think that actually having a Swahili translater along for these interviews with African runners is a silly idea. So we end up with these half literate bits of gibberish and we are supposed to make sense of them. Honestly not his fault. How would any of use fare if we were racing in Mexico and used our HS Spanish to answer these exact questions?
Do better Gault and LRC, y'all should know this by now.

Humans don’t think in language, and he responded in English just fine.

They just had an interview with Evans Chebet posted on the front page. An email interview with a Swahili translator. I don't see anyone else interviewing Chebet, likely Kipchoge's biggest competition. I enjoyed learning more about him. It was more in depth than a verbal interview all in English. At the same time, it wasn't all that more introspective. "I knew my time would come" about coming in 2nd six times. Athletes are going to athlete.
I've watched Kipchoge run (and win) so many marathons. I always wonder what's in his mind. You watch his face from 25K on. Little distraction, total focus. That's the reason he's the GOAT. Mind like a razor.
I’ve got to think that an interview with LetsRun gets the lowest priority when compared to real, legit running journalists.
You mean like the legit journalist for one of America's top 5 largest daily newspaper who came up to us at the Olympics and says, "I love your work" and then asks us questions about track as he knows we live and breathe the sport?
There's a reason why they selected Jonathan for the interview. His work is respected and he covers the sport 365 days a year.
I get why someone started the thread. 6 minutes is a long time to be interviewing someone given short answers. And Jonathan was pressing for details and Kipchoge is really good at deflecting. Both with Jonathan and in the main press event Kiphcoge said something like, "The best time is the right tme" as to why he chose to run Boston now. What does that even mean? Jonathan is the only one to try to follow up on that.
Now, I totally get why Kipchoge didn't want to answer the questions. The questions were all aobut doubt - hills, age, retirement etc. Kipchoge doesn't want doubt in his head.
The reason why Kipchoge is the GOAT is he fouses on the process. As he said in the main event yesterday, he is a professional. He treats it like his job. He goes all in on the process, wins, and then repeats. Unlike most people, he doesn't think about x or y or get distracted. Just time to get back to work.
Curious, what do you mean “they” selected him for the interview? Was he the only one to get an exclusive interview? Or just one of only a few? And who is “they”?

Unlimited human’s closing focus with music to match.

He said he’s never had an injury that kept him down for weeks (wow).
I guess that is the (at least almost) unthinkable plus of Kipchoge. Getting worn down myself by injuries, I feel like it's just THE single biggest thing working in his favour: being consistent and injury free.
I was so much slower and still 3 years or so were enough to run easily sub 2:20. After winning worlds in 2003 he has 20 freakin' years of training behind him after that, it's the unthinkable for every other athlete.
If that's the case he will run amazing again in Boston. Headwind or not - he cannot control this - he again will do something spectacular. I wouldn't be surprised if he runs the last 5k 13:30ish if it is a bit slowed in the first 2/3. 14:20s are cruise control for him.
Would love to see this, or a tactical affair where he blasts the last 2.2k in 5:50 or so, what was never seen before, too.
Because or his consistency the interview came of a bit weird. It wasn't the questions, but Kipchoge: the standard "problems" of guys nearing 40 are not his problems.
He's just on another level and does good to not overthink the "normal" aging/injury stuff that happens to other runners at that age. As long as he never experienced serious injuries why would he waste his thoughts on if this, if that when right now he's clearly on top of it.
When the wind isn't cooperating look for him to smash it after heart break hill. When the wind is in his favour, look for 2:00/2:01.
The whole interview was just about one question. "Why are you still running old man?when are you going to slow down and when are you going to retire?come on old man"
If only he knew this site questions his integrity daily. From his age, to cleanliness to even blaming him for a pacemaker at Ineos 1:59 getting busted. No one can remember the pacer's name off the top of their head but the headlines all read: "Kipchoge Pacer Banned".
