Dennis Kimetto - what are we Westerners still missing about Kenyan Marathoners?

I grew up on a farm and ran or biked to school and back and I didn't amount to much as a runner.

No TV, no video games. Lots of really hard work from a young age.

I grew up to be exceptionally strong and athletic, but not as a competitive runner.

How are we so good at sprinting when low body fat is a component?

low body fat =/= skinny

skinny = kenyan marathoner

only way to have a lot of adults that naturally skinny is lifelong caloric restriction.

It's really just a WAG. It's supposed to represent the relative importance of genetics among all factors that results in the East African dominance in distance running.

Genetics is 25%-40% of their success.

Everything else is 60%-75% of their success.

Percentage-wise, genetics is not bigger than all the other factors combined, but genetics is probably bigger than any other single factor: environment, culture, motivation, financial, coaching, and so on.
