My tv room has an 8' ceiling and I'm looking at it thinking these guys are clearing their whole body with 1.5" of that.
Hughes set the Canadian record last year WC 8:11.64.

Canadian record?
Performance of the meet? I vote for Silas Kiplagat. His PB. is now faster than Kiprop's.
I didn't realize Barshim is an actual Qatari. I just assumed he was another bought athlete. He's born and raised in Qatar.
Here's a great graphic to show how today's high jump was a great competition:

Lshk wrote:Not really a fair comparison. Mary prepping for WJC - hasn't even been running internationally this year. She is also 2 years younger than Wilson. Didn't Cain also beat Wilson indoors this year along with Chanelle Price and Molly Beckwith in the 1000m, smashing her own WJ record? I think she beat them all pretty easily, too.
Cain will be running internationally in Aug and Sept. We'll all find out then how competitive she is internationally this year.
It's certainly a fair comparison. Just look at how they perform on a global scale- Wilson is winning diamond league events, contending for global medals and Cain is not. Nothing wrong with that, Cain is younger and will probably get there in a few years but you can not possibly make the argument that Cain is more competitive on a global scale than Ajee Wilson.
I think its entirely possible that Cain, if focused on the 800 only, could be running 157s. Why not? I'm not so sure it isn't her best event.
Who is the star is this meet? Kiplagat? Amos? Bowie? Bondarenko? Genzebe was awesome. Ajee Wilson shocked. Iberguen got close to the TJ WR. Gotta be her.

There are other events going on that people watch. One of them is called the high jump. Athletes attempt to jump over a bar more than 2 meters off the ground.
Wish they would do it somewhere else.

A lot of times I'd agree with you. Not when people are jumping 2.4m vs running an 8:0x steeple, though.

What about Gatlin?

A 20 year old is running better than an 18 year old? Stop the presses!
Cain made a WC final as a 17 year old. At 17, Wilson was still racing high schoolers.

Why only outdoor clearances?

No offense to you or to Leo. But I am experiencing some level of cognitive dissonance at folks getting incredibly excited and talking about GOAT following an 8th place finish.

What nobody here has even mentioned:
Fori Bowie 10.80 WL
Blew away VCB, Fraser-Pryce, and Okagbare like they were standing still.
Allyson Felix 11.01, not far from here PR, coming back from a major injury, should be in there somewhere.
Didn't think to even look at indoor lists.

Ajee has two world champs gold medals - WY and WJ. Cain has none - hopefully next week she will have her first. Wilson has been brought along somewhat slowly out of the limelight of huge hype and AlSal over indulgence (like indoors with Mary). Both are phenomenal athletes, but at this moment I would take Ajee's current career over MC's any day - I don't know who Ajee's coach is, and that is how it should be (they are doing a great job with her). In two years, when both will be Seniors, hopefully at the Olympics, and when age-group is no longer an issue, we will see where they stand.
Sadly for Mary, somehow I think this will all be about Al - just like it is for all of his athletes. He is a fine coach, but needs to step back and let the athletes take the limelight - he had his running career, it should be about his athletes now, not him.
