It's a shame, I'd probably watch and enjoy the wheelchair racing without disappointment if it was on its own and finished entirely before the main race. Niche sports are interesting to me, it's a cool weather/course preview, etc. But now it's sort of innately annoying to me.
What specifically about wheelchair racing do you enjoy?
Well, I enjoy motorsports, so I'd like more info about the tech. (That's something that frustrates me a little, it's pretty opaque as to who is in which chair and what advantages they may have).
It's similar to cycling to me in that (as much of this thread agrees) a solo athlete is a bit dull. But in packs I think it's neat to watch. Similar drafting/positioning tactics, plus it's always impressive seeing people so close together at high speeds.
Would I go out of my way to find and watch it? No, but stick it on before the marathon and I'll happily watch it then.
Why don't they just have wheelchair on a separate stream/channel?
Because then the whatever woke police are out there would complain the "disabled" were relegated to a secondary channel and how "they deserve just as much billing on the main channel as the able bodied"
Like any of the woke police are actually watching the stream....
The. broadcast started at 8:30. That's when they should've started the wheelchairs. Not at 9am. Oh no, now interviews. Why hype up Kipchoge and the deep field on both sides and then show nothing of it till the end?
Its sad that this is has become more of celebration/ historical event rather than focusing on the competitive aspect of the sport. Just show them running please.
