World Half Champs - US Team?

Why would Rupp, or any top Olympic athlete, want to run this race in March in an Olympic year? The trials are in July. The Games are in August. Right now he needs to be recharging and getting ready to start a big build up, not off running every, ultimately meaningless, race out there.

So then how do explain the fact that

1) Mo Farah who is way better than Rupp is running it.

2) Ditto for Geoffrey Kamwroror. Kamworor has Trials - Kenyan trials to tworry about.

3) It's not meaningless. It's a world championship.

Mo doesn't need to run trials in the 10,000 only the 5,000 and against UK runners. That's about as guaranteed as can be. And he's not coming off of a major marathon or having to worried about a marathon build.

Both Chelanga and Estrada expressed frustration at not being selected for the team via twitter. It seems like both may have expressed an interest and been denied for some reason by USATF. Seem like strange omissions.

Rupp just ran a marathon. Mo did not. He can afford to run the race right now. He still has a chance to shut down and build up for August. I can't speak for Kamworor, but I'd say the same thing about him as I would to Rupp.

In 2 years no one cares who won the 2016 1/2 marathon World championship. It does not, and never does contain all the best runners. The Olympics do. In 50 years winning or medaling in the Olympics still counts a lot.

Don't sacrifice the big picture for the small one. Ever. IMO.

I wonder if they did what they were suppose to do to be considered. I remember reading somewhere that they had to email USATF by a certain date showing interest.

Did Rupp just run a marathon in February? Farah has not.

It's a world championship? Centro won a "world championship". I thought a world championship determined who the best in the world is. No one thinks of him as better than Kiprop. The Rio Olympics are the only world championships this year. The others are meaningless.

If I were Alberto Salazar, I'd make Galen do the Olympic Trials Mar and then World Half instead of Indoors 3k. Who agrees, and think Al Sal's plan was not a smart move?

Does anyone know why Edwin is such a popular Kenyan name?

It makes sense that biblical names would be used in missionary countries, but I'm not sure that Edwin is a biblical name. Anyone?

Rojo was responding to this, "Why would Rupp, or any top Olympic athlete, want to run this race in March in an Olympic year?" The any top Olympic athlete doesn't say anything about just those who have run marathons.
