No one there is interested in a fast time. The field is loaded with kickers. The field will probably ask the rabbits to go 12:50 pace, just to get them out of the way, and race for the win. Robinson on the other hand, will make sure it isn't slower than 13:20 pace, probably.

Exactly - plus they're all tired, burnt-out, past peak fitness, etc...

None on the circuit today are capable of sub 12:50.

The days of KB, Kipchoge, Shihine, Shaheen, ELG etc. are long gone.

Well, 3 years ago plenty of them were capable of sub 12:50. Injury and form changes, but don't kid yourself that the likes of Koech, Dejen, Hagos, etc aren't world class runners.

Of course they are world-class runners, but currently world class is in the 12:50-13:00 range.

Remember when Bekele dropped out from the 10k in 2011 WC and DNF because he was tired and unfit and then 3 weeks later ran 26:46 in Brussels? I wonder what Kara would make of that.

You can hardly argue that Farah is skipping racing, when the reason he isn't at Brussels is because he is, er, racing! The GNR is a huge deal in the UK, 2nd only to the London Marathon as the most important road race on the calendar. Having Mo take part in that is a big deal.

Mo is a championship performer, as his medal tally attests. He doesn't need to run DL 5k either financially or reputationally, other than to satisfy the LR community who (rightly) point to his lack of a fast PB in 5k or 10k as being a reason to discount him from the ranks of the "greats".

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Mo fan - I love to see him race, I'd love to see him on the track more. But I can understand why he doesn't feel obliged to do so - why give his opponents more opportunities to try to tactically defeat him?

I'd like to see Rupp just stick with the pacers and go out alone the last 2k. What does he have to lose if he's fresh? And Jager should absolutely get some rest and get in there with Rupp and trade off with him, because both of them, while lacking great kicks on the world level, are terrific at sustaining a hard pace and absolutely can stick with the pacers on low 12:50 pace, if fresh.

Rupp's 27:08 in those conditions at World's was indicative of excellent form.

First, you write contradictory things: Jager should rest and race. Those cannot go together.

Second, "What does he have to lose?" The race, dummy. No one wants to finsih 8th, 10 seconds arrears of the winner. No, he is not strong enough to run 12:50 by himself.

You're probably the same poster applauding Ingebrigtsen, forgetting that he got beat badly, did not run a fast time, and walked away with nothing for his "balls".

It'd be great to see a fast 5K to end the season. Put your nuggets on the line, fellas!

One poster guessed a 12:55 winner, with Rupp at 13:03. Based on what we saw at worlds, Rupp will be much closer to the front than 8 seconds back. I'd like to think he's up for this one (like he was for his first 10,000 American Record after the 2011 worlds). It'll be fun to see what transpires.

i hope he breaks a world record. it would make things incredibly interesting. Bolt would still have his olympics wins and WC wins and the titles would be there, but then losing a WR might make him work even harder to try to get it back. Or take higher does of drugs and maybe finally get revealed. i don't know, pure speculation of course.gatlin has tested positive for drug cheating which i do not support. i was anti-gatlin for years but seeing him compete now and the way he handles questions and the press, he's generally rather polite. he was civil and smiling after losing to bolt. like, "hey, ok, i am proud of my season but this dude is just so fast, maybe i cannot beat him when it matters." or "man, this guy has some drugs i need to get on"i guess i'll say it this way, if Bolt was a convicted drug cheat as well, i'd be rooting more for Gatlin than Usain. 1. rest and race means get some rest prior to the race, not doing hard workouts, not travelling to other races.

2. coming in 8th in a circuit race is the possible downside, of limited significance, and he usually is destroyed in the last lap anyway, while the upside is an AR and possibly even the victory by running away from guys gunning for the usual low 13.

3. Ingebrigtsen tried to steal the race but he didn't have the strength. Otherwise, he likely would have finished in the usual fifth. Don't always do things the same way if you want different results. Rupp is on a higher level than him in any case.

It kind of amazes me that you have the gall to come on here and slam him for not racing when you don't even know he did in fact race.

Hager did race. He and many others tried to the do the impossible. Run great in Zurich on a thursday jet lagged as hell after somehow getting their from china. I can tell you I was exhausted all week last week trying to adjust to the time change from china.

Jeez what a bore you are. Without ingebrigtsen that race would have been absolutely boring. He did a great thing, more runners should take chances like this, after all, we watch the race to be entertained. He didnt lose much anyway, probably wouldve ended around that place anyway. It was a great move. Very entertaining.
