She claimed to be in American record shape - that is 2h18 on a flat course. That you think it is 2h16 shows how little you know.

I know Kipchoge fell off and all, but Bates' last 10k was faster than Kipchoge's. Seems like a crazy stat

Do you even follow professional marathoning and know what kind of course Boston is? Hellen Obiri was minutes off the American record, too. Emma's claim was regarding her form on a flat course where a US record would be feasible, and Boston is not such a course.

Agreed. People like 7th who can only spout off emotionally, from their small, provincial, biased viewpoint, never have the focus and intelligence for clear thinking, rational points or evidence-based perspectives. It would be sad if it wasn't so wilful.

It’s a pretty special feeling to watch someone like Bates actually leading with a shot at the podium and at WORST top 5. As opposed to the men, who certainly it’s fun to see them up there but knowing they’ll never have a shot, and knowing Fauble is going to run them down like he does every year, definition of insanity.

All that to say Bates is and was incredible and that race made me feel something.

It’s also comforting to watch someone like Fauble just know how things work and run their race. Trusting the process.

Props to her and coach Joe for preparing for this. 5th and a PR on this course with this deep a field is great. She ran for BAA right out of college and lived in Boston. Love how she hung tough and wasn’t afraid to run with the front pack. I saw her at mile 24. Congrats Emma!

You are wrong about what a run-on sentence; the post you commented on has neither any missing punctuation nor missing conjunctions. A grammatically perfect sentence can be pages long, as proven by Joyce, Faulkner, Krasznahorkai and many other greats. You help the person make his point about you. Ignorance of the basics. I really hope she's goes for the 10000m squad for Worlds and notch a considerable person best. After Worlds get into one of the top tier flat fast marathons and take our women's American record sub 2:18.

Nice. None of those 4 times have actually been run by those runners. Bates was 3:41 off the AR today, not 6+ minutes. She said she believes she’s capable of 2:18-2:19 on a fast course, not 2:16. Brilliant.
