Albertson, best known before today for setting treadmill and indoor marathon world bests, had a 2:13 lead at halfway, got caught on Heartbreak Hill but still rallied back for a top 10 showing.

With surgery and other issues, Stinson struggled to stay in the sport, but has ran a couple good build-up races including a 62-minute half.

With all of the world's majors taking place this fall, the fields are likely to be weaker than normal and you see that in the Boston men's field as it features just two sub-2:05 men.

With the Olympics and all of the majors happening within the span of 3 months, not every race will feature the defending champions. Des Linden, Edna Kiplagat, Caroline Rotich, Atsede Baysa, Lemi Berhanu, Geoffrey Kirui, andYuki Kawauchi are the defending champs on the list.

Linden, the 2018 champion, will return for her eighth Boston Marathon on October 11. "I definitely miss racing the distance, and more importantly the big city marathons and the crowds and all of that," she said. Meanwhile, race organizers are more and more confident the race will be held.

The field also includes Ethiopian half marathon record holder Jemal Yimer (58:33) who will be making his marathon debut.
