My final race for this college XC season is this coming Saturday. What is the best thing for me to do training-wise to get myself ready to run fast?
Background:
I ran more than I ever had this summer, got up to 100 miles one week, averaged 80. During the season i averaged 70 miles. Kept the easy miles easy and went hard on the hard workouts. I don't think that I overtrained and I don't put much stock into "burning out." However, I didn't get the results I was looking for. Ran about 26:20 for the 8k early on in the season. With that being said... I feel burnt out lol
My training has slowly gotten worse and worse. I've had to stop workouts early. I've developed a nagging dull pain in the quad. And, my legs haven't felt good in a couple weeks. In addition, I've been urinating blood pretty consistently after runs. I went to the doctors about it a year ago and they said its normal.
My sleep and nutrition are good. My shoes are new and fresh.
Should I "pull the plug" on my training and run just enough easy miles to stay loose before my race? How do I get my legs to feel fresh and fast again? Ice? Massage? Strides?
