Better check those averages again. Most standard daily trainers run 9.5-10.5 ounces or more (size 9). I don't know of any 7 ounce shoe that is not either for racing or minimalist.
One explanation is that we are all mindless sheep who buy whatever the shoe companies tell us to despite the liberating experience of running in lightweight shoes. Another explanation is that we've worn dozens of different shoes and are going with the ones that work best for us for daily running.
I tried a lighter shoe for daily use once. It kind of sucked. I stuck with it until I got injured. Then I bought another pair of 11 ounce, 12 mm drop trainers, and everything was much better.
I now run with brooks hyperyon. I’m size 11 and they weight 7 ounces- and they are not flats, they have enough cushioning even for people who heelstrike, and they have 10mm drop. Before that I used to run with Kinvara but they felt too heavy-8 ounces.
But running with 11 ounce shoes- that’s insane! Even for training- that’s like running with weights on your feet. I’m from Israel and you won’t find here in the shoes stores light running shoes. I don’t know why, they don’t sell the light models- only models of 9 ounce and more. I always have to buy online. I don’t get that.
