Hey there,
Anyone have any experience with running and Hashimoto's? I have been recently diagnosed with the condition and while all the information I've been able to find is about being hypothyroid (which is the norm for Hashimoto's clearly), I am currently hypERthyroid. I'm told Hashimoto's can have a hyperthyroid phase where the thyroid leaks hormone as a result of being attacked by the immune system.
I've had a whole host of the usual hyperthyroid symptoms (with the exception of weightloss) and between the lack of good sleep, fatigue and whatnot my activity levels have been reduced to basically no training at all. Anyway, currently I'm told they want to leave me to deal with said symptoms for as long as it takes for the thyroid to burn-out and go hypothyroid, which could be who knows when, at which time they would begin treatment for that.
Aaaanyway, I was just wondering if anyone had experienced similar and had any particular advice. I have had a really up and down couple of years running wise; ran my marathon PB in 2015 (2:37:11) and a half PB in 2017 (1:13:40) but pretty injury prone and was really happy to have been (seemingly successfully) making my way through a base phase with a better mileage (never managed more than about 80km/week consistently before but was up to 120km/week in Dec-Jan having built up softly softly in a controlled base phase) so to get completely knocked out has been a bummer!
