Lauren Ping 10:25 3200m

Grade 7 record? Age record?

Don't we only care about Grace Ping?

Having a 5k XC PR of 17:07 and 10:25 in the 3200m is extremely impressive for a 12yr old... period. I wonder if she's trying to top Grace's PRs.

I cringe. Over the years, the number of MN 7th & 8th grade girls whom are burnt out and damaged before 11th grade is disturbing.

Neither are high mileage girls. They’re just really talented kids who are both going to slow down with puberty (see Grace 2017 to current). Both kids are gifted enough that they’ll be able to contribute on D1 teams, even if they can just get back to their junior high times. As a guy, I can’t imagine how hard that maturation process is for female distance athletes.

I'm fairly certain that this 10:25 is faster than Grace has ever run for a 3200... it'll be interesting to see what happens head-to-head between them for the rest of the season!

That would be a shockingly good time for a 7th grade boy!

I don't get how a young girl can be strong enough to run so fast, both mentally and physically.

This is actually true of most sports. Girls in gymnastics, climbing, swimming are every bit as competitive as boys and often more. More like a Force Of Nature.

aussie 12 year old ran 9:19 for 3k that equates to sub 10 so won't get too excited. But a good time. Lets hope we see her competing in 2028!

Meanwhile Grace was only 7th in the mile with a time of 5:08. The fanboys who are so obsessed with the Ping girls forget that girls tend to get slower as they mature. I would love to see the Ping sisters eventually dominate in D1 but I will wait until they can repeat their success when they are 16/17 before I get super excited about it.

The girl in third placed in the top ten at Footlocker Nationals last fall.

These are all amazing time considering that the snow just melted last week. Weather was perfect during race time, though.

Agree about the maturation process. A lot of girls just need to “stay the course” and keep on keeping on to get to the other side. But, I’m pretty sure Grace’s coach said she was doing 40 mpw last year as an 8th grader, which seems high. Of course, the Ping sisters obviously have talent, regardless...

Wolfgram also doubled back from the 1600 too! With literally everyone coming back, the MN distance girls will be among the best in the country

I'm guessing most everyone on this message board is aware that girls go through puberty differently than boys.

Doesn't take away from an awesome performance. Hopefully she's running that on low mileage.
