Did a workout today for steeplechase. Did about 15x200 over hurdles/water jump and 6x300 over hurdles/ water jump. I did so many since I was going much to fast (34-35s per 200) and wanted to nail my goal pace of 36 or so. The point of these was to get my pace down, not really to get in shape. There was a ton of variable rest for this since the point of it was pacing, not fitness. After this, I decided to go into a 1200 over all hurdles/ water jumps at conservative goal pace based on my flat 3k time. This was 9:10, or 3:40 for the 1200. I have experience in the steeplechase so I am not a beginner and am efficient over hurdles and water. After doing the 1200, my time was 3:36 (9:00-01 pace) and I felt a lot more tired than I should of in my opinion. It was of course a sub maximal effort but idk Didn't feel as if this was a sustainable pace for a race. Do you think all those 200s and 300s could have been sitting in my legs despite their ease and big rest? Also, do you think that going 4 seconds faster than my pace could have played a factor here?
