You think she's ready to run that fast this early?
Ordinarily she starts off her seasons relatively modestly, although that's usually because she's aiming for a hard peak for Worlds/Olympics in August. My guess is that the name of the game this year is the AR, so she may structure the season differently. That being said, it does seem too early for her to run that fast.

Are Genzebe Dibaba and Almaz Ayana running in Doha?

Probably using it to gauge if she tries a 5000m this season.
No. She was at her best in 2014 when she ran that 8:29. She hasn't run a PR in years.
She’s realistically more likely to run 8:35.
I don't think she'll break it due to lack of racing. When I ran as fast as Slaney, I was racing every weekend building up. Jenny needs to callous her body to go through 1600m in low-4:20s and then keep hammering and then be able to kick in no-man's land in case Obiri is in full flight.
The answer to the question is yes.
She's been more concerned with winning medals than setting records and I'm sure that has a lot to do with her physical durability over the years. Jenny has had the potential to be the best in the US at both 3k and 5k during her career, but it's been easier to get to the podium in the 1500, so she has rarely raced seriously at those distances. This year might be her last chance to get a record, and maybe avoiding injury will be a secondary consideration. Getting an AR could be her goal, especially since Rowbury has picked off both the 1500 and 5000 records. Obiri can do a good job of towing her to the record.

Answer: no.
Wouldn’t be surprised if she isn’t even on the homestretch by the time 8:25 is on the clock.
Simpson will be running into a tail wind for half the race. The record will stay.
Times are often very fast for this race, despite it being early. It is also hot but dry. I would love to see her beat Slaney's record and then go on to take the 1500 and 5000 records from Rowbury.
With a 10 hour time difference coming off a long transatlantic flight, first race of the year, i don’t see it happening. Maybe off some peak training well settled into the European circuit, with an enthusiastic crowd and good pacing.
Mary's 2000m has been around since '84. Despite many American women able to break over the last decade or so no one has gone for it. It's easier than the 1500m American record and great prep for getting a 3000 record. No one ever listens about getting it. Some runners think they have more chances to get records.
Isn't the weather in Doha usually only good for record assaults up to 1500m? Might be too warm and/or humid for an ideal 3k.

The fastest 3ks of the year typically come from Doha.
No. But it would be nice to get that drug cheat's record off the list.
Africans run fast at Doha AND win medals. Why can't Americans?
