You're off your rocker! Good going stereotyping! Shows how narrow minded you are! I wouldn't comment with such conviction unless you yourself have been in that environment. Incredible how much judgement there is. In this case, this issue is more serious than you imagine. And you certainly can't throw all ivy leaguers in one basket. Good luck with your judgemental life.
So you think an injury is identified by a cast on the leg? These coaches aren't equipped to deal with the end result of over training. I'm led to believe they deny of its existence and the very real and frightening outcome. As a whole, I think there needs to be an overhaul in college athletics and the way these coaches are trained. It's not really working as it is...maybe only in short bursts...but not enduring. In Harvard's case, this is certainly the issue. Now add on top of it, the manipulation and team division directed by the head coach.
Elbadata:
Your fervid defense of Krazy Kuntz has led me to conclude dat you two is knockin' boots, Fred G. Sanford, Prof. Emeritus, University of Compton
Hey, I didn't know Rashida Jones was one of us.
Fred, This is not a Lauren Kuntz issue, has been an ongoing and worsening issue. She finally had enough and decided to speak up, unfortunately the rest of the staff is silent. You know the saying, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
If you think the coaching is so wonderful, where is Courtney Smith, word on the street is that she is a shadow of her former self. Why did the Ivy League XC championship team look like crap in the spring? Where are they?
The men well, you know that story......
I don't care if a volunteer coach is a male or female, I'm sick of "volunteer" coaches thinking they understand anything about the sport. I am a full-time DI coach, and don't care anything about the Harvard situation. But I am tired of volunteer coaches all across the country. It is a repeated theme in collegiate track/cc and I know of dozens of situations where the "volunteer" coach, that individual who basically shows up and carries hurdles, or holds a stopwatch believing they know more than anyone else. If Harvards athletes are complaining I will take that at face value, but a "volunteer". I could care less about that individual. I, along with many, many of my colleagues have had consistent problems with volunteers. The downside to this is fewer and fewer coaches are willing to allow volunteers to help with the program. Recently, I had a volunteer who thought he knew more and told our distance runners the direct opposite of what the distance coach told them. If the Harvard "volunteer" had not done the public stuff, and dealt with the AD, SWA, faculty-rep, I would have no problems. For her to claim she understands is for me a no-go.
You need to get a clue, most Head coaches in this sport and most assistants all started as volunteers. That is the big problem, they didn't get in by being good, just by ass kissing the Head.

That is not what the poster above you said. He is not happy with volunteers who think they know it all. This attitude is very common these days and it is not limited to the younger generation. The internet has given people a false sense of authority. What makes you think some punk volunteer understands the sport better than a coach who has been doing this for many years? Experience counts for something folks, give it the due respect.

LOL! There is no shortage of know nothing, do nothing long time coaches.
She was apparently an athlete as a UG. Given that she is an MIT grad as well (ie intelligent), I'm going to rate her as credible. Never mind all the smoke that was already present. Its not like this is the first alarm sounded here.
Still, I do not know the entire facts or the other side of the story so thats all I can say.

Curious. Is there any precedent of a coach of a defending cross country conference championship team being let go for fostering an unhealthy team culture?
No examples given yet. Would PWD be the first?

I'd imagine the list of volunteer assistants is even longer.
C'mon now, we all enjoy seeing Haahhhvuudd types and their ilk, the boat shoe, plaid shorts, polo shirt-wearing types, having some discomfort in their pampered lives😈
I have no idea what is actually going on here but this wacko elbatata reeks of the over-reactionary, overly-dramatized, self-victimization that has been escalating on the internets over the past few years or so.
My advice: do what humans have been doing for millions of years. Get the F over both it and yourself and move the F on.
You're welcome.

Apathy, denial, and trying to cover your own tracks.

It's not just escalating on the interwebs. This is something that has run rampant through the more prestigious colleges. They can't get out of the way of their own intellects.
PWD should probably leave simply because all this is going to destroy recruiting. Parents pay much more attention to the "creep" factor these days, no mildly invested parent would let their elite daughter near the program now.
So I guess regardless of what's really going on - there will be a change.

Nobody starts out "elite". This right here is the problem folks.
Have any of these universities developed an undergrad program for Outrage yet? Certainly they're doing something right in teaching it.
Outrage 101: Race and Gender Differences - how to distort statistics and amplify resulting discrepancies
Outrage 224: The Terror - how to be offended by the slightest comment or action, an introduction to safe spaces
Outrage 312: Gender Inclusion - making the case for an infinite amount of genders and how to be appropriately outraged when one is not recognized
Outrage 450: Outrage in High Performance Athletics - how to react when coaches expect you to perform at a high level

No one with that type of attitude should be coaching young women, nor anyone.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
