I tried to find out if anyone else started a thread for the 2017 season but I couldn't find any, so figured I might as well get this started.
We have a little over a month to go until Indoor Heps returns to the NYC Armory. The schedule is already available (http://hepstrack.com/blog/2017/01/18/whos-ready-for-new-york/)
While all of the schools have already competed in at least one meet so far, most of the big names have not yet raced. I did some scoring based on what is up at TFRRS as of 1/23. Limited relay and multi participants; no one has raced a 5km yet; and no real big names in the 1km up to 3km distances.
Men scores (everything):
Princeton 159
Cornell 105
Dartmouth 91.5
Harvard 71.5
Penn 59
Yale 35.5
Brown 32
Columbia 10.5
Men scores (no relays, multis):
Princeton 147
Cornell 95
Dartmouth 62
Harvard 57.5
Penn 47.5
Brown 32
Yale 21.5
Columbia 2.5
Women scores (everything):
Princeton 96
Dartmouth 93.5
Penn 91.5
Harvard 80.5
Cornell 71
Brown 59
Columbia 57.5
Yale 24
Women scores (no relays/multis):
Princeton 88
Penn 79.5
Dartmouth 73.5
Harvard 60.5
Cornell 50
Brown 50
Columbia 49.5
Yale 14
And what does this mean? Perhaps nothing at all. But my thoughts:
- The scoring charts are going to change once we get more distance runners on here, so I expect Penn men, Columbia men, Harvard women, and Yale women to move up overall, while Princeton men & women to stay up near the top.
- The Harvard women do not appear to be as sprint/hurdle strong as they have been these past few years. They still have Gabrielle Thomas as a favorite in the short sprints, and Jade Miller is a strong hurdler and 400m runner, but Dartmouth have their own sprinting rookie Cha'Mia Rothwell who is already into the top-10 all-time in the 60m, hurdles, and long jump, and Cornell and Penn have more names in the sprints/hurdles than Harvard does. Also, Harvard's Nikki Okwelogu is expanding her indoor events to include both the shot put AND weight throw (she's not in the top 10 in the weight throw right now, so we'll see if she continues this event for iHeps). Looks like Harvard is trying to spread out the talent to possibly get more points...
- Princeton's Julia Ratcliffe is back, while Elizabeth Bird has raced once so far. Nothing yet from Curham. On the men's side, Princeton has quite a presence in the sprints, hurdles, and field events, which is how they have over 40 points over the next closest team.
- No Cornell's Rudy Winkler yet.
Next weekend will include the BU Terrier Invite, so perhaps some of the distance folks will come out to chase a possible NCAA qualifier...
