@ 39 yo on trail? I doubt it.
Gillis, age 36 and Coolsaet, age 37, just ran 2:12 and 2:14 at Rio.
You think that they couldn't run 5:20 pace for 31 miles on a trail at age 39?

Hey moron, the subject of this thread is that this singer person is in the 77 percentile for his age group in ultra running. Two guys that ran 2:12 in the Olympic Marathon have nothing to do with that. Also, your buddy that ran 6 minute pace for 20 miles every week back in the day likewise has nothing to do with that.
If you are trying to rip the singer person, just say, "77 percentile in ultra running? Wouldn't that be like Valedictorian of a special needs school?"
Conversely, if you are trying to rip ultra running in general, just say, "Wow, ultra running is so pathetic that the guy from Death Cab for Cutie is in the 77th percentile, what a joke amirite?!"
Something like that.

So you're comparing Olympic athletes on the road, with a true amateur on a trail?
Yeah, but he's a rock star and was married to Zooey

Agreed.
Ben Gibbard is pretty darn cool. And if you have a chance to listen to any podcasts where he talks about music and running, they are definitely worth it.
Well, they are only worth it if you like running because it is fun and enjoyable. If all you want out of running is one more second off your PR, don't bother.
And why do those people even click on these threads and comment? I love the message board, but it is those posters that make me question it.
Stuart Murdoch is faster (1:20 half, 2:52 marathon that I know of), and his band is better, and he has written several of the best songs ever about running.
