The sportswear giant's decision is understood to be a direct result of the doping scandal sweeping the sport..
The move will result in tens of millions of dollars in lost income to the IAAF and will be a major blow for embattled president Lord Coe.

Of just a chance for Nike to "step-up" and sponsor the IAAF.
Of course this will be completely innocent...
Nothing to see here.
$8mil a year? No wonder athletics are in the basement. Doesn't Nike spend over $200mil a year on the NFL sponsorship deal?
Apparently the total deal was worth way more than that. The $33M was just cash funding. That figure doesn't include kit, facilities, perks, etc., etc

Nike taking the opportunity here. Nike has no problem with dopers and doping and the widespread corruption. None.
If Nike step in, will that make Coe's position untenable?
I always want to congratulate a company when it takes an ethical stand, so that's my first inclination...but knowing how poorly Adidas is doing makes me wonder if it is using this as a way to get out of a big contract.
Esp since they are staying with soccer even tho it has corruption problems too.
What ethical stand? They realize that the sports obsession with drugs is ruining it. Meanwhile pro sports worldwide turn a blind eye to PEDs and attendance and marketing value are soaring.

Of course not, the two things would be entirely unrelated.
it's not clear that the "sports obsession with drugs is ruining it." At Rio do you think the stands will be empty during the track meet? At Monaco will there be empty seats? no - most people don't really care about the drugs. quitting in an olympic year is an ethical stand, I think

Yep, maybe tiger woods can sponsor the IAAF?
Or Usain.

So Adidas is going to pay reparations to jews for making boots for the Nazi's too, in their ethical largesse?
I don't need any shoes right now but I'm going to buy a pair of adidas tomorrow. Gifts for the rest of the year? You guessed it -- adidas.
The IAAF's soul mate is Nike anyway. Both organizations are corrupt to the core.
I hope other companies pull out as well. It may be just thing the sport needs to clean house. Seb Coe is not taking this scandal as seriously as he ought to. Many do not seem to realize the extent to which the sport is losing relevance.
yeah, right
Considering that adidas does business with Kayne West, I would never buy jacksh*t from them. Period. I am equally conflicted as I would never buy anything from a racist company like nike either.
PUMATIME
adidas also paid $1,068,712 (£750 million) over 10 years to sponsor Manchester United, and don't even get the main logo on the kit. So yes, that's not a lot to be a sponsor of the IAAF.
More like unassailable.

I though of this to. Its mind blowing that the sponsorship for the IAAF is less than a tenth of of the yearly amount for Man U. I know Man U is a hugely popular club but I can't believe our governing sports organization is that insignificant in comparison. I think this shows how amateur the leadership of our sport is and how pathetic they have been on building the sport popularity wise and financially.
