Hi all,
I'm hoping someone has had a similar experience out there and can help me. Last year while marathon training I suffered a stress fracture in my third metatarsal. I had to take ten weeks off running (and missed the marathon!). Recently I have been upping the intensity of my training and have raced several short races. I noticed a very slight ache in my third metatarsal a few days ago while running. After the run I located a tender spot (tender if I pushed it) at the exact spot (but on the opposite foot) that I had the stress fracture last year. It is not painful while walking but I am 'aware' of it if I run and so I haven't run now for three days. It actually feels similar to a stage last year when the stress fracture was nearly healed. I am confident from my previous experience that it is the very early stages of a stress reaction. My plan is not to run til the spot does not feel tender when pushed. This is extremely frustrating as I have been running well and posting PBs in short races and was about to start marathon training for an autumn marathon. I was wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience and how long they had to rest before the early stress reaction healed.
Many thanks.
