I have been counting calories and weigh in every morning. I also use Excel to track my cals, weight and my 2 week average weight vs work and keep track of the trends over time.
What has worked for me is to eat first thing in the morning no matter what. I will generally eat fairly regular mini meals throughout the day.
I was as heavy as 170 lbs when I decided to do this. I lost 25 lbs over a period of 3 months. There were times I felt hungry, but I never felt that mt energy was ever compromised. My cal deficit was generally 500-750 cal per day. When I got down below 150 my running was so much better.
Some people will do a crash diet, losing a bunch of weight, but then put it all back on. This is unsustainable.
I find it's important for me to keep track as I have been doing as it is easy to revert to old habits and gain weight.
Weight will fluctuate between 2-6 lbs on a daily basis from consuming excess carbs or eating salty foods. This is fine so long as the average weight doesn't fluctuate.
Good luck!
