Did bernie make a big mistake by going to ASU???
obviously. He went to ASU being one of the top recruits in the country and two years later he is just a middle of the pack runner blending in with walkons and other mediocre talent. Sad situation for him. It must be hard watching other guys who he used to run and beat in high school now pass him and excelling in other teams around the country. Hope he finds his way back to the national scene.

Just looking at his milesplit. So far this year he has run a 14:26.28. Not too bad.

Steve Magness was a 4:01.02 miler in high school to set a Texas state record.

Magness suffered injuries in college that spurred him to study kinesiology.
Now he is an excellent researcher, coach and author

His #1 health issue was OVER-THINKING.
The true travesty were those high socks steve pranced around the track in.

Yeah I'm sure he's gotta be frustrated by all of it. One thing to point out is that it's likely Bernie is one of those guys whose body matured early and as such, ran as fast as he ever was going to run at an early age. He ran a 4:01 mile as a junior in high school along with an 8:48 in the 3200. He didn't improve those marks as a senior, and now at ASU has run a 4:07 for his college pr. He ran up to 110mpw in high school, so he probably just maxed out his body early.
Quintana isn't a bad coach but he doesn't seem to be progressing at ASU - he ran basically the exact same time at the Wisconsin Invite both his freshman and sophomore year. The upside for him in all of this is that he's got a full scholarship - so he'll get a free education and graduate with a degree and no student loans. So his talent is still benefitting his life which is great to see.
I hope he enjoys his college experience and all the good times that come with being on a college xc/track team.
