wasn't too bad though.
wasn't too bad though.
Went from 12th to 5th in the last 75 meters though. Nice finish I thought.
Let me know when they start giving out trophies for nice finishes

Let me know when they start giving out trophies for being a douche bag.
So a high school junior just placed 5th in a DL 1500 in 4:08 with the strongest close in the field and you guys are all disappointed. Truly unbelieavable.

This. I feel sorry for Cain. The expectations of fanboys is going to crush her.
When you guys look at your racing careers do you have fantastic races each and every time out? If so you need to stop posting and start publishing your training because every distance runner on the planet will want to buy it.

sort of...the 1500 wasn't a DL event. Still a nice run, but nothing to get too excited about for someone who has been running as a professional since the winter.
Well, at least she can say that LR gave her thick skin. Most people can't survive heavy criticism.

Why is it so impressive to have the strongest close? The goal is to win. Also, her year in highschool is irrelevant - She is a 4:04 1500m runner with a great kick. She did not show that today. It is disappointing, but it's understandable. Most people usually have at least one unimpressive race in their career.

I'm guessing you had plenty of unimpressive races and maybe one impressive race in your career.
Sorry, but 4:08 is not unimpressive in these circumstances.

You have to understand, Cain shouldn't being treated as an amateur high school runner anymore. She is a world class athlete, and no one is making fun of her for having a sub-par race. It's important to point out some flaws in her races so that she can learn and adapt in the next race. Do you think Salazar will tell her "Oh you're just a high schooler, it's ok to make those mistakes." ? He won't be too hard on her, but he will definitely tell her all the mistakes she made. Cain will brush this off, and move on to the next one.

How dare you come in here with your reasonable and rational viewpoint!
I don't think most are expecting her to be treated as a HS girl entirely, but the critics are referring to her race as a "clunker." Sorry, but a 4:09, just 1 second off the win in her first race in Europe is far from a "clunker."
I don't most would have had a issue with comments such as "her tactics weren't the best this time, but she'll learn from it."
And those that don't understand the relevance of kicking well despite the results have an elementary understanding of our sport.
Because getting into the next round relies heavily on that closing speed. Doing so allows you to often use the minimum amount of energy to qualify, which can be valuable in championship 3-round races.

Hold it...I thought they had discontinued the "Cash for Clunkers" program. Did she receive $2500 for that clunker? Hell, that clunker is worth more than some of the clunkers I see on the road these days.

It IS a clunker. Her positioning was horrible. Where the race is located is irrelevant. Everyone else had to race there also.
There is no relevance to kicking well. The goal is to win. Not to have the best kick. If you had the best kick, then you should have won the race. If you had the best kick and still lost by a lot, then you raced poorly. What else could it mean?
It's ok for Mary Cain to have a bad race. Just accept it. Let the girl have a bad race.

It wasn't pretty, just accept it. She was running in lane 2 while she was 2 meters off the back of the pack. Poor positioning, poor tactics, good kick. You can have the best kick in the world, but if you're that far back, you won't win the race.

It's not my job, but this is a running forum. If we can't talk about races, what's the point of this website? I don't know what your problem is...
