Did anyone see the track and field news rankings? 1500 METERS 1. Aslı Çakır Alptekin (Turkey) 2. Abeba Aregawi (Ethiopia) 3. Maryam Jamal (Bahrain) 4. Genzebe Dibaba (Turkey) 5. Shannon Rowbury (USA) 6. Hellen Obiri (Kenya) 7. Gamze Bulut (Turkey) 8. Morgan Uceny (USA) 9. Viola Kibiwott (Kenya) 10. Jenny Simpson (USA) http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/images/stories/Rankings/2012worldw.pdf Simpson #10. How can that be? Yes as world champ she got basically to run in every big race of the year and thus had some 'finishes' but i bet the following 34 girls are upset as she was #35 on US list: 1 03:56.1 Mariem Alaoui Selsouli 6-Jul 2 03:56.5 Abeba Aregawi 31-May 3 03:56.6 Aslı Çakır Alptekin 6-Jul 4 03:57.8 Genzebe Dibaba 19-May 5 03:59.2 Viola Kibiwott 6-Jul 6 03:59.3 Yekaterina Kostetskaya 6-Jul 7 03:59.5 Yekaterina Martynova 6-Jul 8 03:59.6 Svetlana Podosyonova 13-Jun 9 03:59.6 Btissam Lakhouad 6-Jul 10 03:59.7 Hellen Obiri 31-May 11 03:59.7 Tatyana Tomashova 6-Jul 12 03:59.9 Yekaterina Gorbunova 13-Jun 13 04:00.1 Yelena Soboleva 6-Jul 14 04:00.1 Yekaterina Poistogova 17-Jun 15 04:00.5 Kristina Khaleyeva 13-Jun 16 04:00.8 Yelena Arzhakova 13-Jun 17 04:01.2 Anna Mishchenko 6-Jul 18 04:01.2 Gamze Bulut 8-Aug 19 04:01.2 Maryam Jamal 17-Aug 20 04:01.6 Morgan Uceny 31-May 21 04:01.7 Yuliya Zaripova 5-Jul 22 04:01.7 Mimi Belete 17-Aug 23 04:01.8 Natalya Yevdokimova 6-Jul 24 04:02.1 Lisa Dobriskey 6-Jul 25 04:02.3 Yuliya Chizhenko 19-Jun 26 04:02.4 Natallia Kareiva 8-Aug 27 04:02.6 Siham Hilali 6-Jul 28 04:03.0 Laura Weightman 8-Aug 29 04:03.0 Lucia Klocová 8-Aug 30 04:03.1 Shannon Rowbury 17-Aug 31 04:03.2 Mary Kuria 4-Sep 32 04:03.7 Ingvill Måkestad Bovim 6-Jul 33 04:03.8 Faith Kipyegon 19-May 34 04:04.1 Hannah England 27-May |

I don't understand what your list of 34 names and times is about. Please explain further...I'm stupid. |

Those were the 34 women that ran faster than Simpson last year. But at least 1 tested positive. |

Okay, but wouldn't that make her #35 on the world list and not #35 on the US list? And those funny sounding names aren't Americans. OP screwed up somewhere. |

That settles it. I'm naming my daughter Yekaterina. Should get her right around 4 for the 1500. |

Who cares about time? That's the least important factor in the rankings. It's easy to criticize the rankings. It's not as easy to make a case for who deserves to be ranked ahead of her. Please do so. |

there are 3 Americans in the top 10. That's all that matters your point is irrelevant. |

BTW Aregawi is now a citizen of SWEDEN, by nature of marriage. No kidding. |

Yekaterina Kostetskaya who won the Russian champs and made the Olympic final. Tatyana Tomashova who came third in the Russian champs and fourth in the Olympic final. Now, please tell me which brilliant races Jenny Simpson ran that justify her top 10 ranking despite having average times for the year? |

Just make sure she is comfortable trading p!ss with a nonrunner to pass the testing. |

The rankings look about right to me. If anything, Simpson's ranked too high. Remember, last year after winning the World Championships she was ranked 3rd. Rankings are about SEASON records. 1) Honors won, 2) head to head competition. Marks count for little in the rankings. |

Genzebe Dibaba is not from Turkey |

Too thin of a record. Same with Tomashova; just replace the Kuts meet for the Moscow Champs. |
