I don't know about the tectonic plates, but I'm questioning the guy saying fingernails only grow a few centimeters every year. What's your definition of "a few"?

12+1=11+2, but if you write "twelve plus one," and rearrange the letters, "twelve plus one=eleven plus two!"
A ranger station in the southeast corner of Yellowstone National Park is the most remote place in the lower 48. Remote being defined as farthest from a publicly maintained road. East of the Mississippi, there is no place that is more than 10 miles from a publicly maintained road.
111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321

I'd question the second part. Isle Royale National Park is damn near in the middle of Lake Superior. No roads on the island and far more than 10 miles from mainland.

Ferries dock at both ends of the island. Granted, that's not a "road" and they don't transport cars, but that is publicly maintained transportation access.

Unlike other metals like iron, aluminium does not change color when heated to melting. So, always be wary around aluminium blocks especially in factories - you never know if they're cool, or just under the melting point.
This is mostly because it has a much lower melting point. Molten aluminum does eventually glow red and then orange when further heated. Steel and iron parts are also quite hot by the time they start visibly glowing.

Robert Todd Lincoln was present or nearby when three US Presidents were assassinated.
1. Abe Lincoln
2. While at the train station with James Garfield
3. While at the Pan-Am expo with William McKinley

If you put a rubber band around a book (just to keep it shut) and then throw it up in the air trying to spin it about any of its axes you can spin it easily about its longest axis and its shortest axis but it is impossible to spin it about its middle axis.
For the geometrically challenged - (for most books) the longest axis is parallel to the book's binding but midway between the binding and the outside edge of the pages, the middle axis is parallel to the top and bottom of the book and half-way in between, and the shortest axis goes right through the center of each page of the book (think of sticking a pin through the middle of the book as it lies flat on a table.
Try it.

Scientists have predicted that there is a 19% chance of humanity becoming extinct in thenext 100 years. If this seems unlikelz it is because of a lack of past occasions of humanity becoming extinct, so we have no perception of just how likely it is.
Nevertheless, a 19% chance of extinction in any one century means a roughly 50% chance of exticntion by 2300, which seems unlikely.
Incidentally, large vertebrates tend to go extinct quicker than other species,
lasting approximately 2 million years as opposed to 4 million.
