Sorry asbel.

All the current World Records will be broken.
Sorry chattdude.
Agree there! You see how efficient genetic engineering is in Bolt's case. Once they get more experience, I am sure we'll see times of 18.6-18.8 in 200m and 12.15 in 5000m. Just to
give you an idea of what we are talking about.
Genetic engineering? you na'ave respec for Usain mon.
Roger Bannister said that he thinks that the absolute limit of human running, ie. the point at which the WR will never be broken, is at 3:30 for the mile. Though that will be decades if not centuries away.
Jamaica: world capital of genetic engineering
just kidding!
I think the 5000m and mile records will last longer than
the 200m.
Sub 9.5 and sub 19 for Usain. Will Kenenisa fail to beat his 12.37?
Difficult to say. I say the mile is tougher. 3.43 is light years ahead of the current crop.
Well the 1500 converts to around 3:42.5, so I would say that is the harder record to break.
There's obviously no point in saying "never," since the future is vast (hopefully, anyway). But as was discussed on another thread, it's very rare to even have a fast-paced world class mile race anymore.
The mile and 1500 records are both now more than 10 years old. 11 years in the case of the mile.
I'll have to look it up but this is probably the longest period that the Mile record hasn't been broken.
Kiprop is a great athlete, but ElGuerrouj was just so special, like the Usain Bolt of 1500/Mile running.
I agree. The world will end soon (due to global warming), so I don't believe there is much time for all these records to be broken. If they are to be broken, it has to be by 2045 at the latest.
El Guerrouj, he truely was the King.
7 of the top 8 and 13 of the top 20 times all time in the 1500...no other middle distance athlete has been that dominant in terms of controlling the all time list. Maybe kipketer with 7 of the top 10 in the 800m but no one else.
What do you think these records will be in 100 years ? 500 years ? Or how about 1000 years ?

You are such an idiot. Global warming will hardly have a chance to affect ANYTHING before the world ends in December of 2012. Maybe a couple tenths of a degree, but not much.

Not really...Lagat is right behind El G at 1500 and Ngeny is right behind him in the mile on the all-time list. Plus El G got outkicked in Athens.
El G was the best miler ever, but he was not generations ahead of everyone else like Bolt is.
Okay, but if we're ever going to have a Diamond League meet in the Maldives, we better hurry. They're gonna be underwater pretty soon.
who has the fastest "clean" mile time?
