I was talking with my friend and he was arguing with me that someone who can run a 353 mile can't touch 48. and I believe that they have a shot at 47 high.
Thoughts?

You've got a friend?
Webb ran 3:53, 1:47 in HS, and I believe he ran some 47 high relay legs, so he was probably good for a 48.something open.
Depends on who they are
depends on the proportions of strength and speed they're using to get to 3:53. if you're talking about a galen rupp type sub 4 guy, he wouldn't stand a chance. if you're talking about an andrew wheating, then no problem.
anecdotally, i think most 3:53 guys could hit a 48 without much trouble. i ran a 48 in high school with a 1:52 800 and 4:16 1600 in the same season, with a number of barely sub-16 5ks the previous XC season. since none of these marks were enough for d1 scholarship money, i'd like to think that some of the guys who did get the money and are running sub 4 can pull off a 48
All depends on the person. Im sure some can, some cant, but you cant generalize across the board
Yes, Alan Webb is your answer to that question. He is a 47 400 runner with under 3:53 mile speed.
Of course.
