My philosophy is progress by consistency. My coach would overwork us on most days... notice how I said that he would have us do speed work EVERYDAY. Doing that kind of anaerobic work will not get you anywhere and make you hate the sport. Also, hard work does not equate to killing yourself all the time with super hard workouts, and these 2 mile 'repeats' were all out, not threshold. Thanks for venting your rage at random guy on the internet. Jeez. Can't people provide their perspective respectfully?
