It's certainly true that social distancing is difficult for millions of people in NYC. For most of them the big problem is crowded housing.
But I can say that for millions more of us NYers it's pretty easy. Trader Joe's, for just one example, enforces the distancing pretty rigorously and consistently, limiting the people who can be in the store at one time and specifying places to stand whilst waiting in line.
And more businesses are making it de rigueur for their customers to wear masks, which also helps.
