I wonder what NAU will do with Mr. Tyler Day and Geordie Beamish.

Sounds like this opens to door for him to transfer to a school that would provide the opportunity.
I actually commend UW for coming out quickly and clearly with their positioning on this matter so that impacted student-athletes can make decisions sooner in the process if running is more important to them than graduating from the school they had been attending.
Your title is incorrect because Hoare does not need a waiver. He is a regular 4th year guy this year so he hsd he merely decided to take the spring off to train for the Olympics, he could have returned next spring. Same with Monson or Tyler Day. The NCAA decision allows athletes to have an extra spring year meaning they can ask for a 6th year to use 4. So Bosley has a redshirt year to use for spring track and indoor track. That gives him 4 more for indoor but 5 more for outdoor to use 4. The NCAA just wiped out spring because it did not happen.
I don't commend them at all. They are failing their "student-athletes," and note that their decision would be the reverse if football or basketball were spring sports.

Good use of quotes as it is purely a canard. It's an extracurricular activity and no school worth a crap would intentionally water down graduation rates just for participation in any extracurricular activities.

Thought NCAA rule only applies to seniors. Bosley NAU freshman don't get extra spring. Only seniors. Correct me if you can.
What if football and basketball were Spring sports?
Uh, MARCH Madness... Basketball is a Winter Sport, while Football is a Fall Sport.

You’re correct. Though from what his AD said, he would have to use a redshirt for this spring since they won’t apply for waivers. So his eligibility must still be used up in five years.
So what is the problem? He can run outdoor next year then. Then what is the purpose of this thread? And what about Monson saying she is done if she also has another year? Am I confused or is everyone else?

Monson I believe just decided it better not to abruptly change her life plans and to just graduate and pursue the pro circuit as intended. A matter of personal choice.
And probably a wise one, too. Essentially, Alvarez is forcing the seniors to make a wise life decision. Don't suddenly change all of your plans and delay the start of your job or any other part of your life just for college sports. What happened sucks, but don't let your emotions and love for your sport control you life decisions.
Looks like Olli said goodbye on April 3rd, before they let Seniors go.
You are incorrect. Everyone has been granted the spring (outdoor track season) at this point.
To me, it seems fairest to do it this way:
-You should not get a SIXTH year out of this
-However, you should be allowed to get a fifth year out of this regardless as to wether you'd already run outdoors in uniform in 2020
You don't realize that the winter season was cut short? Spring season had not started so nobody ran an official outdoor meet. Everyone gets a 5th year with the NCAA's decision. Those are the normal rules. The NCAA granted a 6th year to use a 4th year. This is fair since there was no season.
The title should be changed on this thread if Monson and Hoare are choosing not to come back. It is not the University prohibiting them because they do not require a waiver.
From what the athletic director (Alvarez) said, it's not at all clear to me that the seniors at Wisconsin are being given the option of using spring 2020 as a redshirt season, and Monson (as indicated in the article) and Hoare (as indicated in his very recent reply to a comment on his instagram page) both seem to believe that, under this decision, they do not have another season of spring eligibility. That would be more along the lines of how the Ivy League is dealing with this situation.
In any event, it's good to see that, at least in this particular instance, Wisconsin is treating athletics similarly to how other extracurricular activities are being treated, and it's refreshing to hear this from an athletic director: “What we tried to do was encourage our seniors to go ahead and, if you’re going to graduate, graduate and move on with your life. We appreciate everything that you’ve done. But move forward. The future is in question, and we can’t promise you anything.”

The title isn't actually incorrect, though. It just says that Hoare's Wisconsin career is over, and that Wisconsin is not providing waivers. No causation implied. Replace the dash with a "because" and it becomes incorrect, but as is it just states two facts that are both true.
