Realistically, we faced far greater problems in 1929, with no solutions even proposed until 1933. And for the same reason, sad to say.
Many times in similar economic difficulties, youth are simply encouraged to work on farms. It’s productive, they are well fed, and it strengthens them and improves their health.
It might seem strange compared to our lifestyle now, but it still works. A modern take is the “community gardens” movement. Trump will never propose this, but it can be implemented locally.

In order to get the youth out there though we need to get past these stay-at-home orders.
If it’s only the youth doing these farm jobs say 18-30 year olds it would have the advantage of (1) at least some segment of our population being productive at this point (2) if all these youth are in close contact they can start giving each other COVID-19 (while being away from the vulnerable and elderly) and if they are young and healthy they will have a very low chance of mortality. At that point we can finally start developing some herd immunity. People hate hearing this but herd immunity is really the only realistic long term solution to this thing.
Not necessarily. Farm work is often solitary. Local gardens are easy to organize within the restrictions, and we already have them & need more. Other viruses await in the future.
