40th woman and the second Japanese (no Americans yet) is Misuki Matsuda. After fourth in their Grand Champs, won Osaka in 2.21.47. Was once fifth in Berlin in 2.22.13.

Next man is Lake Biwa winner, Evans Chebet. Won in 2.07.29, here is my mini bio:
Favourite to win not only because he holds the fastest time of the entrants but also his consistency and he has been on a podium at a major is Evans Chebet. He is 31yo and ranked 57. Won Buenos Aires in September in 2.05.00 after second in Milan in 2.07.22.
In 2017 was second in Valencia in 2.05.30. His podium at a major was Berlin in 2016: third in 2.05.31. Has four sub 2.06 marathons on his resume, would there be ten others who could claim that?

41. I think this next lady has still not recovered from the potentially deadly conditions of the world champs. Shure Demise started last year so well.

Third in Tokyo last year in 2.21.05 after the same podium finish in Chicago 2018 in 2.22.15.

2.27.42 in ninth is a much different Tokyo this year

Had a nice break: back in an hour.
28th woman is Purity Rioniripo, third in Nagoya in 2.22.56. Last December was seventh in Valencia in 2.20.39. That was her second time under 2.21 after her win in Paris in 2017. Her husband also won on that course that year.
28 is Purity and her husband is 42, IMO.

Paul Lonyangata's PB was in that 2017 Paris win, 2.06.10. Ran for Kenya at the World's last year but didn't finish then won Shanghai six weeks later in 2.08.11.
42nd lady is Afera Godfay, winner in Dongying April last year in 2.22.41 after fourth in Shanghai in 2018 in 2.23.54. This year was third in Xiamen in 2.26.42.

Then at 24, Edna Kiplagat, now 40yo, down 4 places from year end. Second in Boston then fourth in the humidity at worlds. 2011-14 were great years for Edna, ruled the world. Rankings of 2,6, 3, and 5 by Track and Field News in those years.
I was able to get further with the original start list of the Boston event. After Edna at 7, i had Besu Sado and Mare Dibaba following. Made it to 13 with the wife of a Robertson filling that position. Here is my bio of Mary Wacera at 10 then:
Next woman might be Mary Wacera, 31yo and ranked 208. Seventh here last year in 2.28.33 then tenth in NY in 2.27.36. One day Mary must surely work it out. 2.27.xx just doesn’t cut it when you have four half finishes under 68 minutes.
Between 31 and 32 i included the above. Probably time now to list Besu Sado at 43.
But first, the male 43: Abebe Negewo Degefa. Fourth in Valencia last December.
I hope to see Marcin Lewandowski race after this story I was inspired go check it out for yourself

That 2.04.51 result was a marked improvement over all his times in ten years of marathoning.

Made her debut at this classic distance last year. Below is the mini bio done for last month.
Next woman may be Besu Sado, 24yo and ranked 122. Before last year was purely a track runner, never more than the mile. Her road running career started in April with a bang, bang, and bang. April 14 over 10k in 31.58; half six days later in 70.34; then the classic distance in October in 2.21.03.
Also, wrote about Besu among six women who made debuts last year in my Saitama thread here:

I have named them: the best, the quickest, the hidden, overrated v underrated, and the disappointment. What do you think, Vegemite?
The hidden is next: Besu Sado, fourth in Amsterdam in 2.21.03. Before April had not run further than one mile competitively. Then ran a 10k and a half within six days of each other. Next was this.

44 in the world? A surprise third in New York, Girma Bekele Gebre.

It's fitting to name him at 44 as his bib number was 443 and he started not among the elites but on the other side of the median on the bridge. It is a great story. This 2.08.38 was almost 8 minutes under his PB.

17th man is Kinde Atanaw, winner of Valencia in 2.03.51 on debut.
Just filling in some stats: his kilometres 37-39 were 2.48, 2.46, and 2.40.
Next lady is Tadelech Bekele, ninth in Valencia in 2.22.53: fastest EVER 9th. Was third in London 2018, that great race when Keitany and Tirunesh went out too hard and paid the price.
Tadelech was through halfway in 69.47, 2.31 behind Mary; and finished in a PB of 2.21.40, slicing 14 seconds off her best. Was fourth in both 2014 and 15 Berlin events after being among the premier roadrunners over the half in 2013.
45. Winning Dubai on debut, Olika Adugna, still only 20yo, in a blanket of 11 finishers in 2.06.15.

45 then is Diane Chemtai, third in Ljubljana on debut in 2.22.07. Has four sub 68 half times to her credit. Following was my mini bio on her debut.
Next lady might be Diana Chemtai Kipyogei on her debut. Couldn’t be as quick as the girl in Amsterdam last Sunday but could go 2.23.xx? He best time in a half was on this weekend last year, fifth in Valencia in 67.07. Also in 2018 won the last truly international Usti Nad Labem in 67.17. Earlier this year was second in Ostia in 67.13 on a course not record eligible.
