This would be a cool theory if we were looking back on a finite death toll that occurred a year ago and ended. The problem with these statistics is that they are still building.

I agree. Hence why this thread needs to be taken down. NOW

How many confirmed cases are of people who are less than 35? Look up the answer and you will realize that the death rate will be about the same as the flu.
I have no doubt that most cases of people under 35 are never diagnosed or recorded. They don't get sick enough to call the doctor. And why would they even want to know, when they'd just be targets of a crazed mob?

The panic over coronavirus will hurt more people than the virus itself. What good it is for a infected 70 yr old to get better when their retirment is wiped out?
If a 70 year old has their retirement savings all in the stock market they deserve to get wiped out.

jesse, you really are a piece of trash... I mean the worst type of person we have in America at your core. We get it, you hate America, hate Trump, hate people like myself. Just sick of all your idiotic posts on here all the time. You have to be such a sad person.
This isn't true. Many people have died since coronavirus has been around and not tested for it. We've missed a ton of deaths for sure.

What an extreme over reaction to a statement that's true.
As a runner I am concerned not just with death rates. Covid-19 might also wreck your lungs. Also, people need to understand that many will need treatment without being in the risk of dying.
He told you to go to work with symptoms...
He told you that Corona is a Hoax...
All actions taken are in the direction of maximizing his personal profits or helping him in the election.
If anyone hates US it is Trump
Let's not forget to factor in all the sick that won't seek medical care, b/c they are afraid of dealing with the ER, and dr offices that will do.
When your painting your "3 cheers" for Corona rosey view, remember there are these dead people on corona's tab.
everyone here. wrote:

Do you personally know anyone who has this virus, never mind died from it?
The mortality rate is 1%. That's from the chief medical officer in the UK. Better qualified than any of the sources quoted here!
There is no cure, that's why it's so dangerous! It has a 15% mortality rate in the 80+ category.
Rojo - how old is your dad? How would you feel if you gave him the virus and he died?
It's just the flu bro.
No. It's not just the flu.

one problem with relying on these numbers is the fact that we nearly always know whether a death is related or due to corona. However, we don't know about people who have corona and don't know it. There's likely 10-20% greater numbers of people who have had the corona and didn't realize it, which can lessen that mortality rate significantly. Perhaps not by half, but it could be closer than we think. it's certainly not *more* than 2%, as we're never going to be dealing with large numbers of unreported deaths. We *are* dealing with large numbers of unreported sicknesses.
This isn't true. Many people have died since coronavirus has been around and not tested for it. We've missed a ton of deaths for sure.
This is correct. It was circulating in Italy - undetected (medically) for 6 weeks. The Italian regional health teams were NOT testing for it.
Also, what is the latest Trump obsession related to testing for? It's too late for testing! Jeez...
I'll just consider this an interesting statistical question to analyze. People will die of Corona and people will continue to die of other things (heart disease, diabetes, suicide, etc). The question is what will go down as result of quorentine.
1) car accident. Maybe less people on the road but that doesn't mean less fatal accidents. Traffic actually reduces fatalities because it's hard to die going 10mph in traffic. So will people slow down with less traffic. Will they be less tired, drunk, etc? Unless liquor stores run out of alcohol and people sleep more then I don't see this going down.
2) diabetes, heart disease etc is mostly caused by obesity. Will we run out of food in stores? People loaded up on some of the unhealthist stuff imaginable with grocery hoarding so doubtful. Will people exercise more at home? Doubtful. So don't see much improvement hear.
3) suicide, make people work alone at home and not interact with people for a long time. Can't see that going down.
So if you really think about what people would die less of it doesn't work out. If anything some of the other causes of death may go up. We would need long term changes in habits to really have any changes in death rate other than corona. Think scientifically and use facts.

No. It's not just the flu.
My dad is 73. Turns 74 this month. It would be terrible if he died from it. Mortality rates are very high for this for older people.
Some people want this thread deleted. I don’t see why. If we all isolate and social distance because of this there very likely could be less deaths from the flu . Why can’t someone say that? That doesn’t mean corona isn’t very serious or a lot of people could die from it. And less deaths from flu doesn’t mean society is better off.
Am I missing something?

I’m not out to arbitrate what people think about this one way or the other. Usually with discussion we get to a better place.
People ARE saying that. It’s not about where the numbers are NOW. It’s about where they’re going. THATS why measures need to be taken. Posts like yours are really really irresponsible and wreak of a personal and political agenda. Is what you’re saying based on the advice of the scientists? If no then STOP. You’re only going to get people sick bc they won’t take necessary precautionary measures bc “it’s just the flu, bro.”

Oh, is this your first day on these boards?
The mayor of one town complained that doctors were forced to decide not to treat the very old, leaving them to die.
There s a lot of fake news around these days. This major is from Bergamo. and he said that in a tweet. Then we have doctors of those hospitals that deny such a thing. They treat everyone that needs care.
