1) Rupp. He's the best distance runner of our generation, and I believe he is clean, and I also believe he has the best work ethic of them all as well as being the most coachable. That's why he is #1.
2) Jim Walmsley. Can you imagine the unending debate if an ultra-marathoner runs sub 5 minute miles for an unpaced, hilly marathon, beating everyone but Rupp? Plus he seems like a cool guy.
3) Dathan Ritzenhein. One of the big 3 from the turn of the millennium. Still running, albeit with mixed results. Written off for the race. How cool to see him competing the last km?
(I think reality is Rupp, Ward, Korir).
For the ladies:
1) Hasay. She's endured a lot of pressure since she was in middle school, she has great marathon credentials, and I think she deserves a spot more than anyone (if "deserving" was a real thing that is).
2) Sara Hall. I like the progress she has made over the years, I also believe she is clean, and I guess in spite of all the religion, I root for the Halls.
3) Steph Bruce. I like her maturity and I think she is a fighter. Plus she looks like my wife!
