They only ran a bit faster than German did as an 18 y.o. on the same track. That's how good he was, that's great he might have been. Sad.

Good for them. Olympic year. USA indoors a waste of time. Training thru. No brainer on that one.
I guess but that's sort of OPs point. Our National Championships will continue to be a joke if people are racing collegians on the same weekend. They went and ran the same distance in Seattle -- why not just do that at the Champs?
If a runner finishes into top 3 in the indoor world championships they should get a bye into the next outdoor championship in the same distance (3k out of luck) and awarded diamond league points redeemable in the following summer season.
If you just show up to the championships and don't DNF or DQ, you should get auto qualifier into outdoor national championships.
There's so much ducking that goes in indoors it's idiotic. Our best 800m runner who set two indoor US records this year is nowhere to be found. I understand some people are vastly different shapes this time of year but our sport is more important than you training at altitude and ducking out.
The OP sounds like the type to ask for a manager and make a scene in front of they’re kids when something goes slightly wrong. Honestly you have no idea what their plans are so why are you and the founders of this cesspool complaining about what they do? Doesn’t kill the sport. You don’t know what type of crowd involvement the Bowerman crew had at UW. For someone who was there yesterday, I’m glad Lopez was at UW he really said some things to a friend of mine that were so kind and really thought out. That goes farther than a weak us indoor title. I don’t hear you complaining about how many Tinman guys didn’t race. Oh wait... they can’t race cause they’re all hurt.
Do stars skip Outdoors?
Maybe Indoor Nationals just isn't a real thing.

This actually seems like it could work. Maybe top 2 in a particular event get an auto bid into that year’s outdoor championship in the closest comparison event. 60 = 100, hurdles = 110hh, 3K = 5K, etc.
Hell, do it for top 3 if you want to encourage more participation.
Don’t see how USATF could award diamond league pouts though.
Did NAU have three guys ahead of Bowerman in Boston?
These guys are professional athletes pointing towards the Olympic Games. They make decisions with their coach to maximize their chances towards that goal.
Good luck to everyone trying to make the team, and it's OK to choose the competitions that help best in pursuit of that goal.
Illegal track? Have they been arrested yet?
I understand why Jerry sent Hill to ABQ, but sheltered Evan.
If (not sure, but if) he had gotten trounced by not just Chelimo, but the two Army steeplers in the 3k, that ain't feeling like a good come back for the AR holder.
He needs some softballs before he goes into his only US Champs/Trials questioning his ability. He knows the Oly Trials are for real this year. He's not a lock to win, or even make the team. If his old shakes come back, Cabaral could push him out.
That Rotich ain'y playing either! More NCAA titles than Jager and Bor combined (that's kind of a joke as I know Jager went straight pro from little league soccer :)
Good news! If you wait until this summer, you will see a meet that everyone does their best to qualify for and perform their best in. It’s called the Olympics and it’s the pinnacle of Track and Field. Other than that, coaches/runners kind of cherry pick the races they want to run. Hard to complain about slow championship races AND fast time trials but I suppose LRC is a home for malcontents.

Domination in the women’s 3000m. How’d NOP do today at US Indoors?
Um pretty sure NOP doesn’t exist anymore ...
That’s the joke bro
Why would they do USA indoors when it’s slow and tactical, when they could do a faster race somewhere else. Those times could’ve boosted their confidence and US Indoors is just a waste of time
You complaining about Bowerman guys going to Seattle?
What about folks like Brittney Reese in the long jump, Nia Ali in the hurdles, and Christian Taylor & Will Claye in the triple jump...you gonna whine about them too? What about the defending Olympic champ in the 1500, Matthew Centrowitz?
Relax...it’s an Olympic year. They’ve got better things to do than a USATF indoor championship that don’t mean jack.

This is probably the reason Schumacher had the BTC men run in Washington instead at USAs. He wanted them to run a hard effort to see where they were. In a one-race championship final, the pace would likely be anything but fast. The result would indicate nothing about their fitness level -- all it would indicate would be their racing fitness in February which is meaningless.
POD. Amen...

No they don't. That's exactly what we fought against the AAU back in the 70s. The IAAF/ USATF should never be allowed to restrict any athlete's right to determine when and where they choose to race. NEVER.
+1
Wejo is so wrong on this I don't know where to begin. The athletes aren't slaves or indentured servants of USATF.
And you wonder why nobody gives a crap about T&F, why it's dying. Hey, how about we never race!
if they dont have a qualifier they can't go
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
