We just need WA or USATF to come out and say whether Alphaflys are allowed at the Trials. That is the most imminent major race.
Awesome job by Nike marketing, "these shoes are so good they were almost banned".
It does work out for them brilliantly
Excellent. Word Athletics is on the right side of history here. A great day for the sport!
Nothing to see here. The NBA tried to ban the Air Jordan. World goes apenuts over the AlphaFly.
Nike laughs all the way to the bank. Stock price goes up. Runners are happy to run big PRs. All podium spots in Tokyo/Sapporo goes to Nike athletes. Execs gets paid. Thank you. The end.
I think you guys are missing the big picture. We are looking into this but if a hiatus is put on new shoes that would mean Nike athletes would have a HUGE advantage at Trials and Olympics as other runners for other companies possibly couldn’t run in their prototypes they are meant to catch up to Nike.
Nike would love this new rule. Locks out competitors if it’s implemented a certain way.
Not ONE non-Nike athlete will be physically prevented from wearing any Nike shoe in Atlanta.

The Alphafly is a future prototype and banned until after Tokyo. Will it be released before that? You bet.
people that spend a grand for a VIP marathon package will pay $250 for shoes
they'll sell like hotcakes...
There is zero surprise if this reporting is correct. There is no way that the VF can be banned without also banning a number of other shoes, setting off chaos among the companies and athletes. It’s clear that they are unable to prove in any conclusive way with data that the VF should be banned.
The problem is that the other manufacturers have not brought to market a similar shoe in almost 5 years of time !! Pathetic. The Chinese can copy a complex device in weeks, but the other shoe companies can’t do it. There are no secrets here- hundreds of people have dissected their VF on YouTube.
They get what they deserve for being unable or unwilling to challenge Nike.
What are you saying? It will be legal and available?
You guys are missing the real story. They say it's worth 8%. Double the original VF.

Referring to the Alphafly here.

Did you mean that the AlphaFly will be banned AFTER Tokyo? (Implying its legality prior to The Olympic Games)
On the Alphaflys I suspect they will be put on hold for the pros, but doubt world athletics can stop Nike from releasing them to the masses. Article says they haven’t been tested and it would be contrary to the new policy proposed here to just let them get released without being fully vetted.
All VF wearers will be required to take feminizing hormones for a minimum of four months to get allowance to wear said shoes.
With a ban on unapproved prototypes appearing imminent, I wonder if any of the other brands are feeling like Icarus.

That’s what I was wondering about too. What about the Sketchers and Saucony carbon-plated shoes coming out in the upcoming months?

In summary: Vaporfly haters go home devastated.
