Back in 2016, Coach Soles spoke out against the use of 7th and 8th graders at NXN deeming it an unfair advantage. See the original 2016 post here:

This past year (2019) Saratoga Girls won NXN and even Letsrun commented on their ages in their Quick Take Section. The Toga girls ages at 2019 NXN were:
2 10th graders
3 9th graders
2 8th graders
To me the real disparity lies within NYS: some districts don’t allow any MS kids to run on their varsity programs and some allow it. IMO this is a much bigger disparity as it allows 2 extra years of HS mileage... also I’ve heard (not sure the truth in this) that the APP in NYS (the test MS kids have to take to prove they can handle Varsity sports) is not as strictly enforced in some districts as in others. The school I graduated from in NYS would have doubled its population of eligible talent if MS kids had been allowed to run on the varsity program.
Once on the National level, the issue seems to be less of an advantage as it is mitigated by school sizes... meaning: FM or Toga may have MS kids running on their Varsity NXN squads but they also have half the population that Great Oak has.
This issue does seem to be only on the girls side. For some reason 7th and 8th grade girls are much more able to compete right out of the box vs boys who need more time to develop and don’t seem to compete at the national level until they are older.
I am curious as to people’s thoughts on this...
Is there really a benefit to MS girls on a Varsity squad?
And more importantly how are some NY districts able to get so many MS kids on their varsity squads?
