Great video interview. I hope Tuohy has a great finish to amazing HS career and excels at NC State. She seems like a really solid person all around:

Doesn’t really look like it
Fun video
Great dedication getting up at 4:30 to work out
Although I hope she's getting focused on nutrition
She mentioned plain bagels as pre-workout meals and Frosted Flakes as one of her favorite cereal
Once I started eating healthy I realized how much better you feel and could make a real difference for young athlete
Anyway might have been just a little joking around because I'm sure she's getting good advice

Based on the thumbnail I think she might be a decent steepler.
She is running 65mpw and has been at an elite level for 3 years. Not good signs for the future.

Yeah, but she hates peanut butter. How can anyone possibly be a fan of such a flawed human being?
Did anyone else find it concerning that she said if she sees a split over 7 minutes per mile for a training run she starts sprinting?? I'm nowhere near Tuohy's level but I feel like running like ~6:50s for training is pretty fast. I was thinking of "Jerry Miles" and how for women it's 8 min and for men it's 7 min. I know the Bowerman women definitely run faster than 8 min pace but still.
I commented this on the NC State thread but it's mostly off the rails talking about privileged for no reason.
Wish all the best to Tuohy, a little surprised by the NC State choice just because of their abysmal record with stud runners, but things have been better the last year or two. I still stay Chmiel doing good this XC season doesn't prove anything as the bulk of that is coming from her HS fitness.
Now to the Running with the Toad video. This confirms what I've said several times about Tuohy but others have argued with. The points I take from the video are:
Likely running 65+ a week
Rarely runs over 7 min pace
Most School days does a gym workout(?) twice a day and practice
Seems fun, I liked the personality she showed, but that also doesn't matter she doesn't have to try to prove she has a personality to me or anyone.
24,000 DMs! Imagine the life she has to lead being the STAR of HS distance running for the last 3 years. Huge props to her for staying tough, never getting distracted and winning 3 NXNs.

yeah...i coach a kid who races between 15:50 and 16:15 on an average course, and he runs a lot of miles at 7:30, give or take. This is something I don't really nitpick anymore though. So many different coaches, at the highest levels, go one way or the other on this philosophy.
The 60+ miles a week is concerning until you consider
--This may have been summer miles. And the jury is still out on how much mileage is too much mileage. I would say if she hit 70-80 range that would be too much. But I'm glad someone mentioned Jerry miles because I thought of that when watching this. Assuming she runs faster than 7 minute pace per mile, she could cover 3 miles in under 20 minutes in a run, and 6 miles in under 45. So even though she's running a lot of miles, she's not out there for that long.
--Damn waking up at 4:30 to hit the gym? Bed by 8:30. May be in the running for valedictorian at a large school. She's a special kid for sure.

Obviously I am hoping Katelyn Tuohy continues to improve and eventually wins 5 Olympic gold medals, but I am worried about her burning out. 60+ miles a week, most of which is faster than 7 min pace, is a lot. 3 workouts a day. How much more can she improve?
The coach should do a better job of keeping her patient. Tuohy said she does more than her coach wants, but that's still the coach's fault. The coach needs to be better at communicating with her about why running less now is better for her 5-10 years from now.
I hope the NC State coaches are more concerned with her long term development than her high school coach is.

She did not say she sprinted you moran. The guy said it as a joke. Good grief.
She said she used to pick up the pace on her slow days if she was under 7 minutes but now runs without a watch.

7:00 pace is 2:00 slower than her 5K pace, so pretty easy. If she is compulsive about it, that could be a problem. Would like to see a few runs slower, but that is my style. IMO girls tend to run a bit too fast in easy days.
Boring interview. Lame interviewer. These youtubers are talentless. I was surprised by her quad development. Did not like her foot landings. Landing very supinated. If she adds more miles in hard surfaces I’d be afraid of injury due to that mechanic inefficiency.
Tell that to Jakob Ingebrigtsen ( 80 miles per week at age 16, so junior in highschool, and still improving more than anyone now)
He is a guy and he is not American. He also is world class. Why would you tell him? That is silly.
What's your favorite book?
Tuohy: Twilight
I'm going to give her the benefit of that being asked in the 'speed round' and her being in oxygen debt from running while answering (and I guess her being in high school).

she's a teenager let her like what she likes.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
